Brand new pressure treated deck that I built last year. Am I good to just give it a quick pressure wash and coat with twp 1500 or is there another step I need?
I use TWP 1500 rustic and natural Its beautiful. I just want to clean it and apply a fresh coat on all I do not want to strip it it’s 2100SQ FT. can I use just the cleaner or do I need to use the brightener after the cleaner as well ? Natural is on the beams and rustic is the decking. I just want to prep it for re-staining for protection from the sun and harsh winters. It’s on a island in Canada.

We have a 2 year old cedar deck. We stripped the previous stain, cleaned and brightened and applied TWP 100 series cedar tone. We only put on one coat of stain. I think we should have put two. Can we put on a second coat after it’s already dried or can a second coat only be applied wet on wet?
Hi, is there another link for the deck staining video? I don’t see it here. Also, 1. I read temps can’t drop below freezing during the prepping, staining, or immediate 48hr after dry time. Does the fact that the area I’m starting with is a covered porch change anything, since it stays cooler, or is freezing still the cutoff temp?
2. Using TWP, what is the best way to avoid lap marks and other negative imperfections?
3. Should I ‘cut’ in parts of the deck along walls and railings first, like when painting a wall? Or does that leave lap marks?
4. Do I stain the edges of the boards that overhang as part of cutting, or leave them unstained?
5. I have parts of a railing coated with Behr Deckover that I can’t get off because of sanders not fitting in the angles and trying not to damage the wood. Would a solid exterior paint work to coat the railings and balusters, or would that peel quickly in full sun? Any better ideas for sanding or painting railings?
1. No, still cannot drop below freezing. 2. Move quickly and always keep a wet edge. 3. Edge out first and keep a wet edge when you apply to the rest of the floor. 4. Stain all wood if exposed. 5. We do not sell solid stains or paints but you have to remove the Behr Deckover fully before applying anything else.

I have a new Pressure Treated Pine deck that was installed in May 2020. It has dried out nicely during a hot summer in NY. I have bought ten gallons of the Pecan 1500. Prep was to clean and brighten deck. How many coats do you suggest and do you recommend doing the railing or floor fist?
I have an 8 year old cedar deck that I’ve put TWP1500 on twice. The boards have cupped some and are kind of rough so I’m sanding the whole surface to remove the old stain and return to natural wood. Do I need prep or can I just apply new stain?
I have a relatively new deck built of cedar in 2018. Stained with Sherwin Williams Super Deck in 2019. The Sherwin Williams product did not hold up. ALL of the knots in wood turned gray and there was some peeling. Having the deck redone but the old stain is difficult to completely remove. The guy who is doing the work said that was just the nature of wood and he intends to apply TWP 100 (dark oak) on top of it. He power washed and used the brightener product. I am concerned that the boards where the existing stain could not be completely removed will look blotchy. He said that the wood should accept the TWP without a problem however. Should I sand out the parts of the boards where stain could not be completely removed or will it be ok?
You cannot apply the TWP over a different stain brand. It needs to be removed first.

The only way all of the previous stain could be removed is sanding. If TWP is applied on boards that have some residual stain after power washing and brightener what would happen?
You always need to remove the previous coating if switching to TWP stains.

Bill, strip off with the Restore A Deck stripper and use the RAD Brightener when done. One of each should be enough but you may need two stripper if the Olympic is thick. One 5 gallon of the TWP 105 Cape Cod Gray.

I have Olympic semi transparent “Cape Cop Gray” on my deck. I am totally dissatisfied with its application and look. It is two years old. I want to remove/strip the stain and apply a TWP cape cod gray (a semi-transparent finish??). The deck is 600 square feet. Please tell what I need – Product and quantity – to complete the refinishing of the deck. I see from your video you have a facility in Harrisonburg, Va. Would it be worth my time to visit the facility. It is less than 2 hrs away. Great college there as well.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with me.

Mazen, only the 1500 is allowed on Cali due to your state’s VOC laws. It works very well for your area. Any color you like will work. As for the prep, it is hard to answer as we do not know if you have an old stain on the wood or if is is just dirty and gray.

1- Just bought a new house that has an exterior redwood deck. The deck is quite old and I am trying to identify whether I need to strip the deck or just clean it. 2- Also I did not really get the difference between the TWP 100 and 1500. 3- I am looking to stain the deck, with somehow keeping the wood natural color. I am planning to order a couple of samples, which color do you advise I should try? 4- The deck is in Southern California, how’s TWP perform on such a weather?

For best results it would be best to remove the previous coating with a stain stripped followed by a wood brightener. You would not need the cleaner. Both versions of TWP would work very well for a full sun deck in St. Louis.

Four years ago, we stained our new western cedar deck using PPG Deck Cleaner and Porter Paint’s “PorterDeck” Cedar-colored transparent wood stain. We would like to use TWP to restain the deck this summer. What is your recommendation for preparing the deck before applying the TWP stain? Is it necessary to remove what’s left of the previous stain by using Gemini Safe Strip or Solid Strip? If so, then apply Cleaner and Brightner? Which TWP stain product would you recommend (100 vs 1500?) We live in St. Louis, the deck is in full sun, plenty of humidity and high temperatures in summer. Thanks!

It would not soak in correctly, having drying issues, and probably fail.
