TWP is Now Being Sold into Canada

by TWP Stains

TWP Deck Stain CanadaNot all wood stains and sealers, especially oil based formulas, are compliant in Canada. Canada has Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) concentration limits in place to protect the environment and the health of Canadians. However, there are some quality oil based wood stains that are compliant with these strict laws. One such product is TWP 200 Series.

Total Wood Preservative (TWP) 200 is an oil based stain that protects against structural damage and wood rot for above ground exterior wood surfaces. The great news about TWP now being sold into Canada is that it is a low VOC preservative with unique UV shielding pigments that reduces wood fading, discoloring and graying. TWP uses select mildewcides that naturally inhibit the growth of fungal molds and mildews.

TWP also resists water and moisture absorption that can lead to freeze damage in colder climates like Canada. Freeze damage is responsible for board warping, splitting, cracking and structural harm. TWP 200 is user-friendly and easy to apply and maintain down the road. It will not chip, flake or peel like film forming types of wood stains. It dives deep into the wood pores to resist water and reflect harmful UV rays. This semi-transparent wood stain formula preserves wood and enhances the wood grain’s natural beauty.

Canadians can buy TWP 200 Series 5 Gallon Pails with confidence knowing that this low 250 VOC formula will enhance and protect wood surfaces in harsh weather. This is a great way to protect your investment as opposed to using a lesser quality or non-compliant stain. TWP is the professional’s choice for all exterior wood surfaces such as fencing, wood siding, decking, roofing and log homes. TWP 200 is now being sold into Canada and will standup to hard winters, foot traffic and summer heat like no other VOC compliant oil based stain on the market.

I have a new PT deck just complete – 5/4×6 with bullnose edges in the new brown color PT. Can I apply TWP 200 directly to this? If so, can I apply it immediately? If not, when? Thank you

Thank you for your reply – understood that my clients should leave it for 4 months minimum. Please confirm that the pressure-treatment (PT) isn’t an issue and that sanding isn’t required. Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I wish I knew about your products before using the Berh one… It’s been 2 months and it’s already faded quite a lot. I’ll know for next time

Hello. I’m in Canada and previously used the TWP 101 pro series cedar tone as I was able to bring it from the US. Now I would like to redo it and wondering what the process would be? 700 sq ft. I have some of your restore-a deck cleaner and brightener but would presumably need more of that. Is this the correct product to use or would I need to strip before using the 200 series? How many gallons of stain would be required?

Hi,
I am looking at options to preserve my newly installed cedar shake roof (about 1500sqft). The house is located in Yukon Canada. The shakes are currently untreated and started to peel and turn gray after only one year. I would like to preserve the natural color of the shakes. Is your TWP200 suitable for cedar shakes and do you have a transparent version of it? How many gallon for a 1500sqft surface?
Thanks

I live in Quebec,Canada and have purchased your 200 series (and stripper and brighter)for my deck. My 2 questions are:It says on the containers that it is for vertical surfaces and should be applied with only one coat?not two.
Second question: in the future do I have to re-strip and not only power wash before staining with the same product?

We are in Canada but have used TWP Total Wood Preservative that we bought in USA on our garage door in Redwood, which I found to be too red for my taste. Can I use TWP 200 over top of of it in another shade after a light sanding?

I am planning to build a pergola with fresh sawn rough cut eastern white pine.  Do I have to air dry it (to what moisture content) before I can use the TWP 200 (I’m in Canada).

I did review that help page but it contains the phrase  “Just make sure the wood is fully dry”.  So again, my question is what moisture content is allowable?

Hello, I am interested in the TWP200 Deck stain and am located in Toronto, Canada. Below is a picture of my current deck having done a removal of Behr DeckOver from last year that failed miserably.
Will your deck stain cover the mess left behind from DeckOver?

Used Behr DeckOver, after 1 year it is a terrible mess.

How does twp 200 compare to 100? We are in Canada but used 100 in the past in Vermont and it was a terrific deck stain, but note that 100 has twice the VOCs (550 vs <250). Thanks

What is the shelf life of TWP-200? I have an unopened 5 gallon pale and half of another, if stored properly and indoors, can I use it when the deck needs a new application? What is proper storage? Should the pale be shaken every so often? etc. thanks.

I have some freshly planed 2 x 6 WRWC the wood has been drying in rough cut state for 7+ years and I am now ready to use it, I am going to use TWP 100 cedar tone and was wondering if I should use a conditioner before the TWP application. I have tried Old Masters Wood Conditioner that is the only oil base I can buy in Canada. will this combination work or is using a Conditioner or primer a waste of time and money if I am using the TWP 100 Thanks

I’m going to cry – we used the stripper, sanded the deck, brightened, waited 48 hrs & now we r ready to stain this morning & there are now big black patches that have developed around nail holes, where the boards join, and large random spots that were not there under the stain or after sanding/brightening. It was perfect warm even temps – what do I do??

So are you looking to find a dealer in Canada for your product? Would like to hear if anyone in Canada has used your product and has lasted without peeling or fading after 1 year which seems to be the issue here and I have experienced. We have a VERY large deck which has never had anything on it and is getting the old grey look and starting to drying out. We have approx. 1200 sq. ft. of decking and do not want to add stain that just won’t stand up to our weather here in Manitoba Canada.

We used the restore a deck kit on 1 year old untreated cedar, followed by TWP 200 series. It is beautiful and weathered the winter superbly. We are now preparing to clean and put on the second coat. You won’t be disappointed if you follow the directions.

Our spruce pressure treated (green) fence was never stained/protected and it has been up for approx. 12 or so years. It has natural staining with grey and black. Will application of cleaner and brightener plus a stain bring back to life?

I have docks and decks at the lake with 15-year-old PT green docks, a 2-year old “Barefoot” brand pt deck, and a new “Sienna” brand staircase. I’d like to treat with clear TWP. In Canada only TWP200, but if I buy in US and I can bring back TWP100 or TWP1500, which seems to be recommended more. What is the difference in the 3 products and which is best for long lasting (don’t want to do every 1-2 years) protection? After a certain number of years can I just reapply without having to strip etc?
Thanks for your help and advice

OK. TWP100 it is. Is there shipping costs or duty to ship to Wpg, Canada?

ALSO, my daughter has a green PT lumber deck at her home in Minneapolis. Should I also get the TWP200 Clear for her or would the TWP 100 or 1500 be better for her deck?

I don’t mind the fading, and am worried that a tint makes it a lot more difficult to apply (re overlapping with roller or spraying) vs Clear, plus does a tint eventually show traffic?

Also, what is the difference between 100 and 200 and 1500?
