Hi,
Does TWP 100 Cedartone need to be shaken up before use and during use?
Best,
Tony
Yes. Stir while using.
This is on a ceiling, so would it be ok to treat it with the clear?
Yes, it would. Clear is an option in the color choice drop down: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-100-series
Is there a clear twp stain? I have a customer that doesn’t want to change the color much, just need the protection.
Yes, there is a clear but a clear (no pigment) will not provide UV protection from graying. It must be tinted.
This deck is 16×24 and we finished decking with white oak tonight. The boards are wet but the weather is turning for the winter so it isn’t possible to stain/protect this year. Next year we want to take the railings down and replace part with the same wood type and then use the darker oak color you offer. How much stain will we need for a 16’x24′ deck including sides? Seperately how much stain will it take to cover white oak sides on half of the deck, so 30′ or so railing cover and bottom board and 12 4×4 posts for the railings? We are going with a metal insert so its just the 4x4s, the top and bottom rails for the railings. Thank you!
We would need a total sq footage added up for each area to help with the amount needed. Also, see here about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Will the 100 series work for a marine dock-15 years old but never sealed or stained? Pressure washing now. Salt water invironment
Yes it will.
I have used a 50-50 mixture in the past of 101 Cedartone and 103 Dark Oak on my log home. We just had the logs media-blasted (crushed glass) and need to restain. We like the color “tone/shade” of the mix, but because the wood is older and media-blasted, the stain is darker than we would like. Also, we kind of like the natural look of the house with all the stain off, but would like a lighter brown shade to apply to retain some of the natural look. The Pecan is a possibility, but went on a little warmer than we like. Is there a way to create a lighter mix with the 101 and 103? Can we add a natural gallon to the 101 and 103 to make a lighter shade?
You can mix any way you would like if the same series but there is not way to say how it will look on your wood. You can only test this. Honeytone is the lightest tint so you could mix that into the Dark Oak.
Is there a “clear” stain I could mix with it to lighten the color? Or would they not work? Thanks for your help
There is a TWP 100 Clear. When you add the clear, you are reducing the UV protection.
I need to stain 3 10x10x12 cypress posts, how many gallons will I need?
1-2 gallons.
Thanks!
Do you sell sample sizes so that we can decide on color?
https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
Which product do you suggest, and how much for 350 linear feet of shadow box fence?
What is the total sq footage for both sides? Use the TWP 1500 series.
Can I use TWP 100 series on a cedar glider?
Yes.
I need to seal and stain my new deck that was completed 4 months ago. I gets a lot of sun beating down on it. I have noticed I have lots of cracks showing up in it. I did the test for moisture by dropping a few drops of water on it and it did not bead up, it was quickly absorbed by the treated wood. I looking at your products to use and they have great reviews and ranked very high.
What I need to know is, do I have to seal it first (if so, with what?) or do you have a all in one product that would seal and stain at same time? TIA
See here: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
TWP is a stain and sealer in one.
What is the difference between 100 series and 1500 series
Mainly VOC compliance for certain states: https://www.twpstain.com/difference-between-twp-100-and-1500-series
I stained my wraparound deck with TWP 100 2-1/2 years ago. The front of the deck is shady and has not faded as much as the sides. I have prepped (cleaned) the deck. The front was much easier to clean and only needs some refreshing. Can I thin the TWP 100 with mineral spirits before applying it to the front of the deck and if so, what is a good ratio?
No, you cannot thin it.
What percentage of humidity is acceptable for applying stain?
Humidity does not really matter.
How long must I wait after using RAD cleaner/Brightener to stain my deck with 100 series? Is humidity as issue when staining?
48 hours.
I have a deck that I’ve treated with One Time Wood since I built it. Didn’t know about your products then. Wish I had. If I want to start using the 100 or 1500 now, what can I do?
Strip and brighten with the RAD Stripper/Brightener Kit and both additives: https://www.twpstain.com/wood-stain-strippers/rad-stripper-additives
Will it strip the color off that’s there? And are the 100 series and 1500 penetrating?
And, do they both repel water? Do the stripper/brighter and additives harm plants?
They shed water. Cover the plants when applying to prevent overspray.
Yes, you have to remove the OTW first. TWP is penetrating.
How little no does it need to dry before getting wet or rained on?
12-24 hours.
How can I get a color sample of pecan that can be attached to a email?
If you are looking for the brochure above, just right click and download the image. You can then attach that to an email
We need to stain a new porch ceiling and the wood isn’t pressure treated. We live in Florida so lots of humidity ,thinking to use twp100. Is this the best product to use and can we do it right away since the wood hasn’t been pressure treated?
100 is still correct but you still need to wait and prep: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/tips/prepping-for-twp-stains/new-wood-prepping/
Addendum to post on removing excessive stain.
I am using TWP100 and may have applied too much?
Its 76 degrees in Florida outside and after two hours it still appears oily. We put a second coat on approx 1 hour after first coat. If we need to remove some stain what is the procedure? Thanks in advance…
It looks fine and it has only been two hours. Just let it cure and dry for a couple of days.
How to remove excess stain
purchased a 25 yr old home with cypress siding all the way around. Looks like it was stained (semi transparent) many years ago. Now it is time to do it again. Would the TWP1500 series be a good choice? And any special prep work necessary since I don’t know specifically what was used before?
You will have to remove the current coating: https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stain-stripper-detail
and these additives: https://www.twpstain.com/wood-stain-strippers/rad-stripper-additives
Use the 1500 series after.
If so, can I purchase enough colorant to tone a 1 gallon of redwood? I would like to mix that into my 5 gallon of cedar.
You cannot add colorant into the TWP but you can mix colors together of the same series.
Thanks for getting back to me. The 5 gallon bucket that I have is 40-4001 Cedar. I have one gallon of 40-5003 Redwood. Are these mixable?
Not sure what those are and no, they are not the same so cannot be mixed.
Can you tell me what product line of Redwood color I would be able to mix with the large 5 gallon (+1)that I have?
I have a 5 gallon can of cedarwood tone stain but I need it to be closer to the redwood tone. Can colorant be added to get closer to this color? It doesn’t have to be an exact match, just redder. Thanks!
I would like to stain a grape arbor. Grapes that will be consumed will grow on the arbor. Is it ok to use the 100 series? Thanks!
Yes.
I have a new deck- that I put in last fall, ready to stain now. I also have a hot tub built into the deck so deck gets wet from hot tub water when getting out. What is the best stain to use for this? I was thinking about using the 100 series, but would the 1500 series be a better option?
Either would work the same for this.
I have rough sawn cedar siding. Very worn. I’ve wire brushed most of the previous coatings off. If I stain with 103 or 1504 what prep is required if I need to stain again in two of three years?
Clean and recoat as needed. Siding should last 3-5 years.
We have a 4 year old deck that has never been stained. Live in Tennessee can we use TWP 100 or TWP 1500. What is the difference.
Use the 100 Series.
I have a cedar dock on a lake in Wisconsin that is one month old. Would
TWP 100 be the best choice?
See here about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Use the 100 Series after wait and prep.
Can you mix 2 colors. For example, Dark Oak and Rustic?
Yes you can mix the colors.
I note that application temperature for 100 series is 50-90 deg F. Are there any restrictions on temperature immediately after application, ay at night or 24 hours after application? Thanks.
Just make sure it does not drop below freezing for the 24 hours after applying.
1. Are there any samples of the stain you can purchase to get the best color match?
2. Cape Cod would be good match but would it be hard to keep clean because so light?
3. Are colors true in the brochure, afraid to trust colors on computer?
1. https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
2. No.
3. Colors will vary widely based on the age of wood and type of wood.
Central Virginia…100 or 1500 series?
Either for Central VA as both are allowed there.
I need twp 101 cedar tone-natural in gallon size
On this link: https://www.twpstain.com/twp100-1gallon-detail
I have a new PT pine deck so my question is should I use the 100 or 1500 stain & 1 or 2 coats deck is at 3 months in & in full sun most all day. Thanks
See this about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
As for which series, that would depend on where you live?
