Step 1 Wood and Deck Cleaner that deeply cleans your wood to remove dirt, grime, mold, algae and general graying. The cleaner will help prep neglected wood and or prep for re-coating with a wood or deck stain.
Step 2 Wood Brightener is used after the wood cleaner to “brighten” the wood while neutralizing the cleaner to a natural pH balance. This step will improve the overall appearance of your wood while helping the wood deck stain longevity.

i bought some tongue and groove siding and i wonder, if its already aged a cpl of years. can i coat the cedar before siding the house or wait until after it’s been sided? would like to get it on both sides. id like to at least coat it once before i get the house sided. without using the restore kit
Apply Step 1 with a pump up sprayer and pressure wash off or heavy scrub. Rinse well and apply the Step 2. Wait 10 minutes and rinse the Step 2.
How do you apply and use the restore a deck? I can’t find it on your website. Thanks!
Zvi, the Restore A Deck is safe for plants but it is always best to pre-wet and rinse if anything gets on them.
Hi there,
Regarding the restore-a-deck:
How safe is it for plants and trees near the deck? We have quite some plants and trees, virtually touching the deck, we look for cleaning agent that won’t harm them.
Thanks,
Zvi
BobNc, you can use the Gemini Kit for prepping for a re-coat. Here is a article on this subject:
http://www.twpstainhelp.com/applying-a-maintenance-coat-of-twp/
I stained my pressure treated pine deck and fence with TWP 207 four years ago. The stain on the vertical surfaces is still good. The deck floor and rail tops needs to be re-stained. It all needs to be cleaned.
If I use Restore-A-Deck to clean it all, but only re-stain the floor and rail tops, do you think that it is likely to look good, or will the cleaning change the stain too much?
Thanks,
Bob
I would not apply a third coat especially a few days later. It will not soak in and could creat3 issues. More is not better. I would suggest waiting until next Spring and apply a light coat if needed then.
I used two light coats of TWP100 wet on wet on one year old pressure treated deck which was never stained before. I think it could have easily absorbed a third coat. I like to use a third coat to protect better and darken the color a bit. I tryed a third coat on one spot and dryed and darkend the color a bit.
Could I put a light third coat after a few days of drying the first two coats? Would that cause any issues?
The Cleaner does not remove stain especially Behr. Behr is very hard to remove. Best would be the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper but you may need to strip it more than once to get it all off.
I see that some companies use the term Cleaner, and some use Stripper. Is the TWP Cleaner going to strip away my old stain (Behr). Obviously I will have to brighten it, however I don’t want to purchase cleaner, if I should be getting a stripper.
Thanks
John
Alexey, darker or richer color will give slightly better UV protection than the lighter tints. Please read this about new decks:

Hello,
I had bought some samples of TWP 1500, and have some questions before purchasing a 5-gallon can. Would a darker stain, such as California Redwood or Pecan preserve the wood better? I have read somewhere that darker stains tend to have better UV filters.
Also, I will be applying the TWP 1500 to new redwood. Should I purchase a cleaner/brightener, or do I follow the instructions sheet on your website — clean with household bleach and water? What are the advantages/disadvantages of either method?
Thanks.
Albert, that would we correct except you do not need the cleaner if you use the stripper.
My redwood deck has Behr semi transparent stain applied one year after construction. It began peeling on all surfaces with in six months. Do you recommend RAD stripper, cleaner and brightener? a
There is not but we would be more the happy to ship them to you. New York only takes 2-3 days for shipping.
I live in Westchester, NY 10514 and would like to purchase the Restore-a-deck kit and TWP 1500. Is there a retailer within 50 miles of me that carries these products?
Jackie, you do not need to clean and brighten agian.
I have a 2 year old cedar deck that I just cleaned and brightened. The weather forecast changed and I was unable to stain. It’s been two weeks.Do I have to reclean and brighten or just rinse the deck off. Using Twp 1500
Andrew, sorry but we do not ship there nor are there dealers there.
Hi, do you ship to the UK? Or are there distributors for you in the UK?
Thanks
Andrew
maeashi1, the cleaner will help with the gray removal. Apply cleaner, lightly pressure wash, rinse, apply brightener, rinse.
I have a one year old pressure treated deck, never stained. I have removed most (90%) surface gray layer by sanding.
Would it matter if some gray remians?
Would the cleaner remove the rest of the gray? I want to avoid ending up with fuzz and have to sand again
Do I need to use a brush or just spray the cleaner and wash
Thanks,
Steven, you cannot apply the TWP of the Thompsons. Best to strip and brighten the wood first.
Lilly, you do not have to get rid of the mold right away but if you want to then the Gemini Kit will work.
Our log home was pressure washed and treated with TWP 8 years ago by a professional. Two years ago I hired someone to pressure wash and treat the sunny side of the house that was faded. He treated with Thompsons Waterseal and that side is already faded. I decided to take on the project myself and use TWP. IF I pressure wash can I treat over the Thompsons with TWP1500?
Areas on the shady side have some mold, but the washer alone took it off. the sunny side needs something for greying.
Because we are waiting for our cypress fence to weather properly before staining with twp, black mold is now plaguing the cypress. What do you suggest for us to use to get rid of the black mold? We will probably have to do this repeatedly to get rid of the mold due to the unusually rainy summer we are having in Georgia.
Lisa, use the kit first then lightly sand if needed when done. Rinse the deck well with water after the sanding.
Yellow Cedar used 9 years ago, never stained, pressure washed 1 time. outside very gray and inside roof area and sides slightly. after pressure washing did have some of the “fuzzy” stuff on wood. Considering purchasing the kit to clean and brighten the wood, where the wood got fuzzy should that be sanded first and then clean and brighten? should it brighten back to close to the natural wood color?
Tonya, if the deck was left alone for 1.5 years then you must remove the heavily gray oxidized wood cells. This is what is causing the fuzz when using the cleaners and there is no way around it.
Rick808, yes you can use the kit for prepping for another coat of TWP.
Is the Restore a Deck cleaning system suitable for cleaning/prepping a TWP 100 stained deck that is faded but otherwise sound before re-coating with TWP 100?
I have a 1 1/2 year old deck that I am trying to clean and stain. It is Cox Ecolife KDAT wood. I have tried 5 different deck cleaners from home improvement stores and they all cause my deck to become fuzzy. I am rinsing with a garden hose not a pressure washer. Do you know if the Restore
-A-Deck will cause the wood to fuzz? I don’t want to have to sand the whole deck after it is cleaned to remove the fuzz or hairy deck. I plan to have sealed with TWP 100.
Replacing 4 boards on pressure treated deck. Should I use restore after the boards are replaced? Should I get unpressure treated boards instead. Do I need to wait months before I use TWP after using restore for the old and new wood
TWP does not fill cracks. Wood fillers and caulk will not work on outside decking and they cannot be stained with TWP products.
Do TWP 100 or 1500 fill cracks and prevent further damage and if yes, up to what size cracks.
What would be best to fill these cracks if repair is needed before using TWP products (caulk, wood filler, etc).
1. Either is fine
2. No they differ between series
3. Apply with pump sprayer then lightly pressure wash off.
I have a few questions
1) What’s the better stain for new pressure treated deck, TWP100 or 1500?
2) are honeytone and cedartone colors for TWP 100 and 1500 the same?
3)What’s the best way (most effective)and quikest to clean spindles to remove mill haze using the Gimini cleaning kit? Do you have to use brush to remove the mill haze or just spray and rinse?
Thanks,
Mildew will not permanently stain the wood. It would just leave it alone and remove it when it is time to stain the deck.
I am letting my new douglas fir railings weather prior to applying TWP 1500. We have had a wet early summer in new England and my wood is starting to mildew. How should I clean mildew off wood while I wait for it to weather properly. I do not want the mildew to stain.
Kdee, when you let the wood gray for a year you are basically oxidizing the top layer of wood cells. The longer you let the wood sit, the greater the amount of wood cells will be removed during the cleaning. This is what causes the “furring”. Best to smooth down with a buffing machine and buffing pads. These come in different grits like paper. Very easy to do. A 400 sq. foot floor will can be done in 20 minutes or less. No need to wash down again. 2 light coats wet on wet would be best.
I just completed the two step process and I have area with fibers. Do I have to sand down the fibers? If so, do I need to wash the deck again with the brightener or just use water? If I wash it down again, do I need to wait the two days before starting the staining? The stain will be applied to a new deck (12 months old), how many coats do I need?
Dan, not sure. Never seen a “chalky residue” It could be some of the stripper or some old stain. Rinse well and brighten.
Hello,
I used the stripper and it appears to have left a white chalky looking substance on the cedar wood. Is this normal? Will the brighter take care of this? Or is this left over stripper that hasn’t been removed. I used a power washer so nothing should of been left behind. Please advise.
Thanks
Dan

The Gemini Restore Kit is compliant for CA and will prep your wood for reapplication.
Hello. I have a log home that is in need of a clean and reseal. Can i use this product or is there another you recommend? Plus im in California and im not sure if you will ship it because it may not be VOC compliant. I have a litle black starting in corners on the logs that i need to clean but most of it is in good shape. Last stain applied I believe was in 2005 when the home was built.
Lori, just apply brightener to the ceiling.
I have a cedar deck which I will be cleaning and brightening before staining. I have a pergola on the deck with a tongue and groove cedar lining (under a steel roof). Does the cedar tongue and groove lining need to be cleaned and brightened prior to using TWP 1500 stain on it. It does not get any weather or wear and tear from traffic.
Clean all the wood then apply a light coat to the entire floor.
