Note: Each sample is roughly 1-2 oz of liquid stain. This is enough to test a small area.

We have black aluminum balusters mounted to our deck railings. After staining with TWP semi-solid pro series will it be possible to easily wipe off any excess stain that has gotten onto the balusters?
If you do it right away, you can wipe it off.
I’m looking at 1501 Cedartone for a new deck made of treated pine. Will the Cedartone be more yellow than the sample pic? We tried 1515 Honeytone which is what our spruce ceiling and cedar posts are finished in, but it is too yellow on the treated pine.
Color varies based on wood type and age so there is no way to say for certain how it will look on your wood. See pics for some help deciding: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-1500-series-stain-colors-and-photo-albums/
Hi,Would you describe the color difference between the prairie gray andCapeCod gray? Do they both look gray with different undertones? I am looking for a more brown warm gray or griege than a silver cool grey. Thanks for your help.
See pics here: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-100-series-stain-colors-and-photo-albums/
Also, you might want to consider the semi-solid colors: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-semi-solid-pro-series
Julie, I’m looking for the same thing. I saw a cedar sample with Cape Cod gray, and it is more cool (blue undertones) than warm (yellow undertones). The slate gray is what you’re looking for, but it only comes in the 200 series. Hope this helps.
I requested a color card a few weeks ago, but I have not received it yet. Can you please mail it to me?
Scott, we do not mail out color cards. You can view the colors above and then order samples to test on your wood to see how it will look in person.
Can you use Pro Semi-Solid on original Trex Decking?
Yes.
How long does it typically last before it needs to be reapplied? If the color is still ok, would a sealer like Defy work?
2-3 years. You cannot apply a sealer over the TWP.
WillSemi solidstain provide the same advantages as semi transparent stain or will it peel and blister like solid stain
The semi-solid is a penetrating stain so it does not peel like a solid stain. You will get better UV protection.
Can i use TWP 1500 on new cedar fence posts to protect the part of the post that will be underground?
No need to do this.
Would pecan but a pretty close match to this color?
Possibly, but colors vary based on the wood type and the age of the wood.
What is the lightest stain is it the honeytone? I want to show the grain on my ceder fence.
Honeytone is the lightest tint.
On a Redwood deck want to keep as much as the sapwood and Heartwood color will the clear 100 or the 1530 keep the wood from turning grey
Must be tinted for UV protection. Clear will gray naturally.
Can I get a sample of a white stain
TWP does not come in a white.
Hi! We live in Savannah, Ga and our dock is being repaired with all new wood. After the weathering period which series of stain would be best for our high humidity and heat? Thank you.

Is 1515 available in a quart size? I ran a little short on my deck project
No, it is not.
Let me add it’s for new cedar fencing.

Thanks. So I can purchase 200 “Clear” for use in CA?
Yes: https://www.twpstain.com/wood-and-deck-stains/twp-wood-stains/twp-200-series
Can I purchase 200 “Clear” in CA – 93727
Thank you for your answer that a semi-transparent stain will not hide the discolorations in the cedar.
Do you have stains that would do so? If so, how durable are they regarding fading? Thanks.
Only a solid stain will and TWP does not sell solid stains.
We have a cedar shingle facade that has blackened in many places. Afraid to power wash again as it damages many shingles. Will the 200 series hide the discolored shingles?
No, a semi-transparent stain will not hide discoloration.
There’s no photo album for 200-series, is there? What’s the rough colour difference between Cedartone 201, Cedar Gold 203, and California Cedar 205? It’s hard to get a good idea from the low-res colour swatches. Are there equivalent colours in the 100 or 1500 I can look at? Many thanks.
We do not have photos of the 200 Series. Best to try samples as colors will vary drastically based on the wood type and age of the wood.
I have a cedar fence that I am looking to stain to match my deck that are both less than 6 months old. The deck is cedar tone treated pine decking. It started out a deep brown and has now faded a little to a more reddish brown tone. It is supposed to mimic the color of coastal western cedar. I have attached a stock photo from menards. Any thoughts on a close color match? Menards suggested a stain they carry tinted to Walnut
I plan to use the same product to stain the once the deck needs to be treated.
Dark Oak in the 100 or 1500 Series.
How man gallons for 150ft shadowbox fence?
Is that square footage? For square footage, you would do this math: Length x Height x Two for both sides =?
I wasn’t sure if it was recommended to add additional due to it being a shadowbox fence. Its 1800 sq feet.
Rough sawn or smooth wood?
Rough sawn cedar with treated posts and stringers
About 15-20 gallons for two coats applied wet on wet.
Hello,
I live in NYC.. my deck is well over 7 yrs old. Thinking of going for the redwood. However, not sure which color gives more of a red tone & would be brighter; redwood 102 or redwood TWP202? Also which one is better? Thanks!
You cannot use the 100 Series in NY. Best is the TWP 1500 or a deck in NY. The 200 is for shakes and shingles. https://www.twpstain.com/twp-1500-series-stain-colors-and-photo-albums/
I live in Reno Nevada, dry high desert.
I just applied twp101 to 2 month Weathered new Redwood deck. Used cleaner brighter day before. Can I apply a second coat in the spring with regular cleaning or must I use cleaner/brighter again prior?
Hello,
You seem to have missed the proper weathering for new wood of 4-12 months: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
You will need to prep again when recoating in the Spring.
I live in the U.P. of Michigan and am going to be refreshing an older stain (it’s very similar to Honey Tone in color) on a rustic log home. Which product would you recommend (100 or 1500) and do I have to completely remove the older product (WeatherSeal) before doing so?
Yes remove the current stain and then brighten. Use the 1500 series.
Staining an old deck, which stain do you recommend, live in Michigan
The TWP 100 Series.
Where can I purchase this in Canada?
You cannot. Only the 200 Series is allowed there and we can ship to you from our site.
I am in Iowa and need to seal a pressured treated deck that was newly installed last fall. Which series # should I order samples for?
The 100 series.
I see that you normally recommend the 100 series, but the 1500 has the “natural” color which we like. Is there a reason we should not use the 1500 series?
You can use the TWP 1500 Seris as well but the 1530 Natural is basically the same color as the TWP 101 Cedartone.
Hello, I live in San Antonio, TX Where the temperature soars above 100 degrees this time of the year. Do you recommend me using the 1500 series? Also, my deck is new cedar that has never been stained. Thank you!
See this about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Use the 100 Series.
Also, do we have to wait a few months before applying or can I apply anytime?

Hi…we have a new home that came with a Redwood fence. We are in Central California valley zip 95337. Looking at getting Prairie Gray, or Cape Code Gray. Is the 1500 series solid or semi-transparent in Slate Grey? It’s sunny and hot here in the summer what is recommended?
The TWP 1500 does not come in gray colors and the 100 Series is not allowed on CA.
i have an older deck, redwood, with arbor coatings each year. I want a simple solution: power wash and stain. ….no whiteners, cleaners, stripping. What semin transparent stain do you recommend?
You have to always prep when you redo with the TWP using the Gemini Cleaner and Brightener Kit while pressure washing. Once you remove the Arbor Coat, use the TWP 100 or 1500 Series.
the deck sits next to sensitive old growth trees. I don’t want to risk runoff of any chemical. Suggestions?
The prep will not harm trees.
Hello,
I have Western Red Cedar in Houston, Texas. What stain series should I use? Thank you.
TWP 100 Series.
One more thing, the wood was previously stained, and I’ve cleaned it. I intend to by the brightener before staining. Do you still recommend TWP 100? Thanks!
The previous coating must be removed fully if switching to TWP. Did you remove it?
Yes removed with a valspar deck cleaner.
Brighten and then stain with the 100 Series.
Which stain series 100 or 1500 is recommended for puyallup, WA – 45 minutes south of seattle?
Use the TWP 100 series.
1500′ of new pine board fence (rough sawn, natural state) with pressure treated posts; 1500 or 100 Series? We’re in WI.
Use the TWP 1500 for this rough sawn fence.
I have a new cedar deck to stain and I want to order some sample stain colors. After waiting 4+ months, will I use TWP 100 series or 1500 series? It is necessary to know this so I order the correct samples.
Where do you live?
I live in northern Wisconsin
Use the TWP 100 series.
Does the 100 clear hold up well? I don’t see info on it…
The Clear will not provide UV protection from graying. Needs to be one of the stain colors for this.
On your sample chart it shows the 101 cedartone, 1501 cedartone, 100 clear, 1500 clear, 200 clear, 201 cedartone, I am trying to preserve the natural western red cedar deck I built in Oregon. What are these differences?
Different Series. See here about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Use the TWP 100 Series.
Would it be advisable to apply stain by spray?
You can spray the TWP. Back wipe to ensure it is applied evenly.
Is it possible to get TWP 1500 in a gray color, such as driftwood gray or slate gray? The Cape Cod gray in the TWP 100 has a little too much blue tint.
Sorry but no.
I am installing a fence using Alaskan yellow cedar. How long should I allow this to weather before applying the 100 series stain? Can I simply apply with an airless sprayer one coat and call it good?
See this about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
One coat id fine after weathering and prep. If you spray, make sure to back wipe any drips.
Can the cost of samples be applied towards the 5 GAL combo kits with the Gemini cleaner/brightner?
Yes.
The last time I stained my deck (a different, older deck) I used the cedar tone stain and the horizontal surfaces seemed to hold up pretty well for about 3 years. Can I expect longer duration from a darker stain like dark oak or black walnut?
No, about the same.
Finished my job and it rained a couple days later just want to show you how happy I am.
What color is this?
Natural cedar
Cedartone 101
cedartone or natural?
Hello. Does both the 1500 and the 100 have UV protection? Particularly the TRP 105 Cape Cod Gray?
Yes, all the tinted colors have UV protection.
I am re staining my white cedar siding after 12 yrs of not being done. What is your recommendations?
Remove any previous coatings first before using the TWP. Use the TWP 1500 Series.
Also what is the difference between the 200 series and others? And is there a 300 series? Are all your colors on here?
We do not sell the 300. 200 is for Shakes and Shingles.
What’s the difference between 100 and 1500 series?
I just had a new 24 x 16 deck constructed in May 2019. The floor and steps are treated pine. I live in NE Ohio. Deck has seasoned for a year. I am ready to stain. Builder recommended TWP200 in Butternut Brown color. Looks like your 1500 products is recommended for decks. Which product do you recommend for decks in NE Ohio? Id also like to order a few samples before ordering 5 gallons?
Use the TWP 1500.
And no way to get the 1500in butternut brown?
Sorry but no.
Photo
Try Dark Oak or Pecan.
What color of deck stain would best compliment our house colors?
From a previous question I read that you said Cedar tone offers NO UV protection? Honey tone does though? I just completely restored this deck from mold and oxidation and wanted the natural cedar look but need UV and water protection here in Seattle. What do you recommend?
No. “Clear” offers no UV protection. All the tinted colors do.
