Note: Each sample is roughly 1-2 oz of liquid stain. This is enough to test a small area.
We are trying to decide between TWP and Armstrong Clark. Deck is 8 yrs old, not in bad shape but dry/cracks because previous homeowner did not stain/seal it. Eastern PA, south-west sun exposure, snow and ice in winter. Considering a darker brown or gray (house siding is gray with white trim).
Also wondering if samples are available for the Armstrong Clark, if that is preferable over TWP for an older/weathered deck.
If TWP is better, is TWP 100 series acceptable for PA?
You can only use the 1500 for PA.

We will use a pressure washer to remove the paint, and your Safe Strip product. Is TWP 1500 rustic the right product once we have removed the paint?
Once all the old coating is removed you can use any of the TWP colors. We do not have any promo codes at the moment.

Use the TWP 120 Pecan for this.

No such thing as Cedartone Natural with Rustic. They are two different colors. He may have mixed them together himself.

Now want to stain it with a dark stain that will show the natural wood grain. It is a historic home and I want to do all I can to protect it. It sees a lot of traffic but little sun. No problems with mold or graying up to this point. Since sanding it, it looks brand new! Which stain would best protect the deck for another 100 years? For maintenance, I prefer something that I can simply restain every few years.
Look at the 1503 Dark Oak.

I want samples for a PT deck sticking out into the Atlantic….I could use stormshield if that refers to protection level.
Storm Shield is a different product. Use the TWP 100 or 1500.

I want a darker color for the beams/posts (dark oak or black walnut) and a lighter (contrasting)color for the vertical cedar shake areas. I want the dark color to still show the character/grain/knots of the cedar but also don’t want to re-stain every 2 years if I can avoid. Should I use the 100 or 1500 series to best accomplish the look and durability for the darker color? Thanks!
Dean, I would go with the 1500 for this.

I used Behring semi transparent on my new 550 soft cedar deck.
Now I plan to stripand brighten my deck using restore.a.deck products and then stain with either your products or Armstrong Clark.
I used Behring St-129 Chocolate color and am looking for a similar color so that I don’t have to redo railings and ballisters. Are your colors Dark Oak 1503 and Rustic 1516 predominantly brown? Is Black Walnut 1504 very dark trending toward black on cedar? I appreciate your help

The Honeytone is the lightest.

There is not a Driftwood Gray but a Cape Cod Gray.
How can I get a sample of the Driftwood grey?

We do not.
Do you have a solid stain ?
K Condon, the 1500 Series for both after prepping with the Gemini Restore Kit.
Had a new cedar deck installed in October 2013, it is 30″ above grade, and has 20″ high brick walls. It is covered by a new pergola made out of cedar. We live outside of Chicago, IL. Which stain do you recommend for the deck? Which stain for the pergola? Thank you.
Martin, just one coat is normal with Cape Cod Gray. Probably 3-4 gallons.
Unfortunately the 100 Series is not compliant for the DC area of Virginia.
We do not know of any contractors there.
I have a an approximately 600 sq foot deck not counting railing and poles. Two questions. If I were to purchase the Cape Cod gray stain how many gallons of stain would be recommended (how many coats are required)?
do you folk recommend any experienced contractors that are available in the Fairfax, VA area? Is so may I contact them?
I live in NE Ohio. Please tell me the closest state/location to purchase 100 series. Thanks Bob
Adam, use the 100 Series for this. Just one coat for the first time. Prep with Gemini Restore Kit.
Same series for other deck.
I live in western Wisconsin, lots of snow and ice, extreme cold along with high humidity, hot summers. My deck faces west, full sun and sits 15 feet above and 15 feet back from our pool. I re-did the deck last summer with all new boards and railings (everything new) and all is done in cedar, it is now graying after the winter. . Would I use 100 series or 1500?
I have a second deck holding a hot tub partially under the top deck. It’s been sealed prior and I believe is pine. All supports were also treated years ago and are treated. Which series would I use here?
Thank you,
Adam
TWP does not cover splinters as it is not a solid stain or paint but rather a penetrating finish. It does seal and protect the wood.
I have a 20 year old deck that has grayed and splintered over the past few years. Structurally the deck is sound, but would like to seal and cover splinters and cracks. Will TWP 100 or 1500 help with this problem?
Nicole, use the RAD stain stripper with the pressure washing. I would suggest getting some samples from the site to test when done.
We have a huge cedar deck that is completely around a 30′ abouve ground pool in MN. In the past we have used Cabot Redwood Cedar deck stain and we have never been real happy with the ware of it. Do you know what color would be the best match. I know we will have to power wash and get as much off as possible but I am concerned that i will not be able to get all of the stain off the railings. On the deck floor it should not be a problem because there isnt much left after this winter.
Ken, I am sorry but we are not familiar with any of the Super Deck colors to give a comparison. Honeytone is the most golden color.
I would like to try TWP 1500. In the past I have used Super Deck #2016 Golden Oak. If you are familiar with this brand and color could you recommend a similar color.
Thanks,
Ken
k Casey, is the wood on the fence smooth or rough sawn? I would look at the 1500 Series for this and the Chapin 1949 Sprayer would make this project much easier:
http://www.twpstain.com/chapin-1949-sprayer
we are having a cedar board fence installed (Massachusetts). It is 6 ft tall and 240 ft long. How long do I have to wait to stain it? Which of your products would you recommend (transparent). And is there a good homeowners sprayer you can recommend or what type to rent? Thanks
Brian24, TWP does not cover or mask old coatings. You will need to remove the Cabot first.
Will the cedartone cover imperfections left over from wear and tear of former cabits chestnut brown stain?
KIm, yes you can use TWP on cypress wood.
I’d like to use TWP 1500 series on our Cypress fence. Can you let me know if your stain works well with cypress?
Thanks!
Kim
William, the 100 if allowed in your state otherwise use the 1500. Please read this for more info on newer wood:

We had a new pressure treated pine deck installed last fall and want to stain it for the first time now. Should we use the TWP 100 or 1500 and should we put on 1 or 2 coats since this is the first stain application? If we put on only 1 coat, when should we put on the next coat? Thanks.

Just had a redwood deck (porch floor) installed. How long before I can brighten/stain it with the 1500? also, it has rained and roof leaked a bit; will this damage anything prior to protecting it? Is Natural or Honeytone best for keeping the wood looking as it does now? Don’t want color, but I understand SOME is necessary for UV protection. Most of it will be shaded most of the day… thanks! Ordering samples now…
