I just had a pergola/gazebo built in my backyard with pressure treated pine about 4 weeks ago.
I have a couple questions:
1)Do I need to let the wood “cure”
2)the 6×6 posts are darker in color than the 2×6’s at the top so would I need a solid color stain to make it all match?
3)Do you sell solid stains?
4)Do you have a larger example of your colors than the small squares on the web page?
5)What do you recommend the twp100 or 1500?
Thanks, Damien
We do not sell solid stains, only semi-transparent colors. Please read this about new wood: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
I have a 23 year old PT deck that has been stained numerous times with Sherwin Williams and Cabot grey solid and semisolid stain. It is on the back of the house in morning sun in MA.The wood is in good condition, I have had to take a thin kerf saw to increase the spaces between some boards as they have swollen and closed the gaps. I would like to clean it and put the appropriate TWP product on it. It is connected to a screen porch which has the same stain-currently solid- which needs only a touch up.
I am sorry but you cannot use TWP over these products. You would have to remove them first completely by sanding them off.

I am looking for something that will keep the cedar from splintering but would like to allow the wood to grey if possible. If that is not possible to do with a clear stain, what stain would you recommend with the minimum amount of color?
The TWP 100 Clear will protect the wood while allowing the wood to gray naturally. This would be your best option. You can choose the clear in the options drop down when ordering.
We are installing new cedar decking. Since it is brand new wood, it is in excellent condition, but it does not absorb water (I assuming due to mill glaze). I would like to stain it with TWP 100 (I live in Missouri) as soon as possible so that it doesn’t turn gray. Please let me know the best way to determine when it will accept stain and the best way to prep it. We are installing it without prepping it in any way, is this an issue? Thanks for any and all advice you can send. I have been very confused by all of the info on the Internet and it seems a lot of it pertains to pressure treated and not cedar. THANKS!

I live in colorado. I have a redwood deck that is about 25 yrs old. I flipped the boards over and sanded down thru the uv grey to the redwood surface. I’ve heard that TWP 100 is the correct stain to use. Do I need to prep the surface before I apply the TWP 100? If I apply the penetrating stain will it look “blotchy?” My preference is a semi-transparent stain. I have a 16′ x 20′ ft. Deck and am thinking 2 gals. Should cover it. How do I go about getting a small sample from you to test it? Also, are there any local dealers near Ft. Collins, Co.? I look forward to hearing from you. Rick
Samples are on the website to test.

You will need to prep after the sanding with the Gemini Restore Kit. You will need 2-3 gallons for the deck, more if you have railings and steps.
I had a new deck built in May. We’ve had a very dry summer. Would it be okay to clean, brighten, and apply TWP to a four month old deck with pressure treated pine?
Yes you should be good to go. Only one coat of the TWP.
I have a cedar-sided house that was stained a dark chocolate brown. I’m guessing previous owner didnt prep before staining, because power spraying instantly revealed a wonderful light brown wood color underneath with woodgrain. My question is whether you offer a clear stain that would allow me to preserve the natural wood color that is now showing.
We have clear but clear does not have UV protection from graying. You need to have color in the TWP for this.
Hi! My deck is cedar and approximately 10 years old. I have been using Olympic Maximum semi-transparent stain on it. Last application was about 2 years ago. I live in Atlanta, GA. Deck is covered, but stairs are not. Would you recommend TWP 100 or 1500? Can I use Gemini deck cleaner and brightener, or just stripper. Deck was just pressure washed by house painter, but I’m trying to decide on a stain. Thanks so much!!
You need to remove the Olympic so best to use the stripper and then the brightener after to neutralize.
My deck is 25 years old, pressure treated pine and structurally sound. Treated 4 years ago with Olympic semi transparent, 4 years before that with Behr Semi. I have cleaned it with Olympic premium cleaner & pressure washed it. Old stains remain in variable amounts from 80% coverage but most is less than 20% covered to bare wood. I should have stripped it. I like the light color to show through and don’t care that it will be uneven coverage. I have decided to use brightener, stain it with a light tint TWP stain and live with it until the next staining 3 years from now and see if I want to strip it then. Which TWP stain should I use – 100, 1500 or something else. Can I buy TWP brightener and not the cleaner since I have already cleaned it.
You should not apply the TWP over the old stain. You need to strip now.

The bottom of the boards have dirt splashed up from rain. Do I need to use brightner and cleaner before applying stain. If so, does it need to be rinsed off and then how long do I have to wait before staining. When applying stain how long before it dries ( do I need to be concerned about rain in the forecast for the following day). I have about 325 feet of fence. Also, how many coats of stain?
Yes you need the Gemini Restore Kit and a pressure washer for the prep with this. After the prep you wait 48 hours to stain. Dries in 4-8 hours. Two coats applied wet on wet application:

Some are around knots, but others are where there is more “open grain”. Will the white fade over time?

We used TWP 100 and it looks terrific. We did have to sand the previously treated deck before applying. The deck is treated pine and was 7 years old.. After sanding the condition was pretty good. It was previously stained by a previous owner …not sure of the product, but it looked poor and was starting to peel. We live in Atlanta and the deck is now under a canvas awning.
Have installed new kiln-dried pressure-treated Southern pine boards on my deck. Do these boards need to weather before applying the stain? If so, how long? I was thinking about using a brightener before staining-is that necessary? I am in North Carolina
For kiln dried, wait about a month and prep with the Gemini Kit to remove mill glaze. You need both cleaner and brightener.
