I am sorry but you cannot use TWP over these products. You would have to remove them first completely by sanding them off.

Just installed 400 foot redwood cedar deck. Off course is was dried from the mill. Installation was complete 2 weeks ago. It gets a lot of sun. What product is best, and should I sand first (60 grit?).
I AM HAVEING A NEW CEDAR DECK INSTALLED. WHICH ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND AND HOW SHOULD IT BE APPLIED?

It would be best to use a deck cleaner with the pressure washing for the prep.

This would be your best option. You can choose the clear in the options drop down when ordering.

Prep first with Gemini Restore kit and pressure washing to restore color before using the TWP stain.

Please let me know the best way to determine when it will accept stain and the best way to prep it. We are installing it without prepping it in any way, is this an issue? You will need to prep after the sanding with the Gemini Restore Kit. You will need 2-3 gallons for the deck, more if you have railings and steps.

Yes you should be good to go. Only one coat of the TWP.

We have clear but clear does not have UV protection from graying. You need to have color in the TWP for this.

You need to remove the Olympic so best to use the stripper and then the brightener after to neutralize.

You should not apply the TWP over the old stain. You need to strip now.

I have cleaned it with Olympic premium cleaner & pressure washed it. Old stains remain in variable amounts from 80% coverage but most is less than 20% covered to bare wood. I should have stripped it. I like the light color to show through and don’t care that it will be uneven coverage. I have decided to use brightener, stain it with a light tint TWP stain and live with it until the next staining 3 years from now and see if I want to strip it then. Which TWP stain should I use – 100, 1500 or something else. Can I buy TWP brightener and not the cleaner since I have already cleaned it.

Yes you need the Gemini Restore Kit and a pressure washer for the prep with this. After the prep you wait 48 hours to stain. Dries in 4-8 hours. Two coats applied wet on wet application:

Some are around knots, but others are where there is more “open grain”. Will the white fade over time?

2-3 years is normal for your area.

We used TWP 100 and it looks terrific. We did have to sand the previously treated deck before applying. The deck is treated pine and was 7 years old.. After sanding the condition was pretty good. It was previously stained by a previous owner …not sure of the product, but it looked poor and was starting to peel. We live in Atlanta and the deck is now under a canvas awning.

For kiln dried, wait about a month and prep with the Gemini Kit to remove mill glaze. You need both cleaner and brightener.
