I have a 5 year old cedar wood fence which I stained (5 yrs ago) with BEHR semi-transparent wood stain (100% acrylic latex). The existing stain is pretty worn with approx. 25% showing the bare wood. I live in the Mojave desert and would like to know if I could use TWP 100 stain over top of what I have now.

You would have to remove 100% of the Behr first and that would require sanding it all off as a deck stain stripper will not remove it. No stain brand can be applied on top of the Behr Deckover.

Do not do it now. Better to wait until Spring, lightly clean, and apply one light coat then.

You cannot apply TWP over the Wood Iron. In order to use the TWP you would need to strip and brighten the wood so it has not previous coating. The TWP is the only registered stain on the market that is registered by the EPA as a wood preservative to prevent mold and algae.
We finished residing our home less than 6 months ago with clear vertical cedar. The siding was pre-stained on site with Wood Iron stain (redwood tint). Now, we have noticed mildew forming on the surface of the boards from the ground up to about half way. What is the most effective product and procedure to use to clean/kill the mildew? Would TWP resist mold / mildew more effectively? Can I clean and apply over the previous stain?

You can reply back to the email you get with this response with some pictures.

Either TWP 100 or the 1500 works great for fences. You can spray then back brush for application.

It will but it will take longer since it is shaded. Maybe a few days.

Not you cannot darken without removing first the Redwood stain. Adding more stain on top of a different color would not be a good idea.

Best to follow the directions of the stain manufacturer, not the wood manufacturer. If you stain or seal now you will need to redo in the Spring.
I just replaced about 1/2 of my 400 sq ft deck with Yellawood ACQ PT 2x6s. On Yellawoods website, they recommend that the decking be waterproofed immediately after installation. They don’t say with what. And, they don’t suggest that the wood weather and dry out before waterproofing. This appears to be contrary to your recommendations. If I were to waterproof it now I assume that it will slow the drying process and will need to be stripped later before applying TWP. What do you suggest?

Deck new install mid-June treated Lumber.
wanting to protect it from winter thought we would stain it with TWP100. Is it too cold? days are 50-60 degrees F and nights go down into mid to high 30s.

I rinsed it completely with water.[/quote]TWP does not react with a brightener. Not sure what you mean by dark but TWP will enhance the natural grain of your wood. It could be that your cedar has dark tannin stains in the wood and that is causing the issue.

I heard about twp and apply it, at it to looked dark so I quit. The wood looks clean, bright and completly clean of product. Could there be a reaction between the twp and the brighter? I rinsed it completely with water.

TWP would be the correct choice a long as your prep correctly by removing the previous coatings that you applied. TWP needs to soak into the wood fully and any previous coatings on the wood would hinder this.

We have a Alabama lake home with a very large covered porch with western exposure that gets intense direct summer sun for about 4-5 hours/day. The surface has been well maintained with applications of a clear wood preservative from the big box stores every two years. We would like to try to get a longer wear period from it and are considering TWP 100. We don’t want a stain that is subject to peeling and our primary goal is to protect the wood with absorbing product and not have to worry about cracking or peeling of the product. Are we on the right track for what our goals are?Recommendation?

Usually a few weeks is about a long as you can go with a deck floor. A couple of weeks longer for vertical rails.
I have 8 month old composite deck with pressure treated railing and spindles. I used Restore a deck and brightener about a month ago. It has been raining off and on ever since. TWP is not suggested for IPE by the manufacturer.
I am installing an IPE soffit, Rainscreen Siding and decks at my new home. Which product is the best and how often will it need to be reapplied and will I need to apply it to the soffit since with will receive minimal weather and sun damage? I am in Pittsburgh, PA.

Leave it alone until fully cured. It will be fine if it rains on it in the meantime. The tacky spots will cure.

Do not stain if wood is wet and do not stain if rain will around within 12 hours or so after the TWP has been applied.

Hi. My wolmanized deck is at least 13 years old and to my knowledge has only been treated with Tompson’s Waterseal. It has probably been 5 years since it was done last. Because the deck is old, I am trying to squeeze a little more life out of it by staining (a little darker), with TWP. I have powerwashed the entire deck (using deck cleaner). Prep for recoating with the Gemini Restore Kit then restain with the same 100 Series.

At this point you need to remove the old coatings. This can be done by stripping and possibly the need to corn cob blasting. Removal procedures varies on what the other brand was and the current condition. Feel free to reply to the email you will get with a picture of your home for additional help.

TWP is oil based with no acrylic. You can clean and reapply it as needed. If you switch to the 1500 later on that is okay as well. No vegetable oil.
