I’m constructing a pergola out of cedar purchased from a lumber yard so I’m wondering what steps I need to take on the new wood because in reading and talking with people I’ve heard a variety of things (i.e. wipe the wood down w/ soapy water then seal it, just seal it no wipe down, use a prep kit and then seal it and you don’t have to do anything for a year). What I thought I was going to go with after hearing everything was to use the restore a deck kit and then use the TWP 100 but I heard the TWP 100 should only be used on wood that’s been exposed for at least 4 months. What would you recommend?
Sorry about the dent. Your local store will sell a plastic 5 gallon pail and lid for abut $5. Transferring to that will work.

I am staining a 10 month old cedar deck for the first time. My climate is super cold with a long winter & the deck will be taking on a lot of snow etc. Am I better off with 100 or 1500 for maximum protection.
Also, is there a shelf life for storing stain, I was considering buying in bulk & storing the remainder for 2 years in the garage?
What state are you in?

over the Cedartone? I also want to know if i should move from the 100 series stain to the 1500 series line?
Stay with the 100 Series. You should be okay to apply the Rustic color over the Cedartone color.

Can you ship twp100 to IL?
I hv a deck that is maybe 10+ yrs old. Previous owner stained with a Red/mahagony color. Most has strip and looks grey. What do you recommend that I do before staining. And what color stain will best cover the old darker stain.
TWP 100 is not allowed in IL. You can use the 1500 Series. You have to remove all of the old stain first before using the TWP. You cannot cover it with TWP.

What do we need to do before and when staining?
Is the wood clean and free of the Bakers? If so then you are ready to stain now. Use the 100 Series for this and apply two coats to the wood. Use the wet on wet method. Thanks!

How long do we have to wait to apply this? I live in IL so it gets a bit muggy here – don’t know if that makes a difference.
I have heard 1-3 weeks, 3-6 months, and 1 year. I want to treat the wood BEFORE it turns grey.
Please help. Thanks
Both floor (last year) and rails were stripped and brightened. Questions:
1. Can I put another coat on floor this year without stripping?
2. Can I put one coat on vertical railing this year and the second coat next year?
3. There is some white mold on a few boards under the 10′ high deck, can I spray 101 on it to protect the wood?
The deck has been maintained by Penofin the last 17 years but always was very dirty in the spring. Your Cedartone 101 this year only needed a light cleaning it still looked great in the spring!
1. Yes as long as you clean the floor form dirt
2. Yes you can do that
3. Yes.
TWP does not turn dark or black like the Penofin can.

My deck is about 2 years old. Pressure treated. I stained this deck previously with a product called Thundersheild. It is water based and began peeling off within a couple of months. I powerwashed most of it off. This deck is in the sun almost all day till around 4pm. I read some reviews that name your product as the best. Do you have a supplier here on Oahu? Thanks for your help.

I plan to pressure wash and thoroughly dry; can I put fresh TWP 100 back on? Lumber is in better than good condit. I use and recommend TWP and have put it on about 7 decks. I’m a handyman.
As log as you clean and prep properly first you can reapply the same TWP.

Use the Gemini Restore Kit for prep. The stain should be okay as long as it was not opened and did not freeze. Stir well.

You should not apply more. Too much stain and it will not absorb into the wood.

We are looking for a semi-transparent stain that will wear well in our damp climate. All the painting contractors we’ve contacted want to use Sikkens but I have not been impressed with the reviews I’ve read. Can TWP 100 semi-trans be used on cedar siding? If so, is there any special prep that needs to be done before application (the house has been pressure-washed, TSP’d and thoroughly rinsed so it’s basically back to unfinished cedar)?
As long as the cedar is clean and free of coatings then you are good to stain. The TWP 100 Series works excellent on cedar siding.

Sorry but we do not custom mix colors. You would need a ratio of 1:9.
