If you used the 500 Series before then you would want to use the 1500 Series. It is the improved version of the 500 Series. There is not a Gold color. There is a Honeytone and Natural color.

Yes sanding closes the grain. Please see this about new wood: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/

Lightly wash with soapy water to remove dirt for prep. Warm water with dish soap will work. You do not want to use too much pressure or too harsh a cleaner that would remove the coating from last year.

From what I can read your product holds its color better than the other above mentioned. On your reply give me advice on the best way to clean this lumber and put down TWP100.Any help would be appreciated. TWP can be cleaned and reapplied as needed down the road. Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit and apply 2 light coats “wet on wet”:

On that link above, there are many more articles with tips on prepping, applying, etc.

Can I apply one coat only of TWP 100? it is so large I wold rather not have to do a second coat unless necessary.
Hello, for the prep you will need to remove the old stain first suing the Restore A Deck stripper and pressure washing. Once removed you would need to brighten the wood with the RAD Wood Brightener. TWP 100 should be applied wet on wet. Typically the railings only need one coat but the horizontals should get two.

Either color is fine. Honeytone being the lightest will fade a little faster. Prep well first with the Gemini Restore Kit and light pressure washing or heavy scrubbing.

Yes you should lightly clean again. TWP cannot be applied to damp or wet wood.
We followed new deck prep and staining process. We did the deck floor about 10 days ago and ran out of stain. It really looks like it needs another coat as you can see brush strokes and it’s lighter/darker in areas. Do we have any options other than to start over or wait till spring to add a 2nd coat? What will happen if we add a 2nd coat?
Couple other random questions:
1. It’s Fri AM and no rain in forecast for several days. So, we planned on finishing up on Sunday (we still need to do the posts in ground). But, the water from yesterday’s rain is puddling on the deck. So, when it says wait 48 hours after last rain, should we sweep the water off the deck and then wait 48 hours? Confused about what 48 hours without rain means…
2. We used 100 – Cape Cod… on the deck it looks lite gray but we have (2) 16′ ramps in the yard and they look baby blue – any idea why? suggestions?
We would suggest leaving alone for the year. Next Spring you can lightly clean to remove any dirt and apply another coat then. As for the color on the ramp, the TWP enhances the grain of your wood so there must have been some blue or green tint in the new wood. Did you wait 4-12 months and prep accordingly for the new wood: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/

Then it sat untreated for about 4 months. we cleaned the surface with Dekscoat and water three days prior to staining.
We put on two coats of stain…..wet on wet application. It has been 24 hours and the deck,is still tacky. We live in Hawaii so do have higher humidity. It has NOT RAINED ON THE DECK. There were a few spots that looked shiny after the second coat so I ran a clean roller over it, but not much came up on the roller.
What should we do now? I think we just applied too much stain and should have used only one coat. Thanks for any help!
Hello,
You have to remove all of the previous stain if you want to use the TWP. How to do this will depend on the brand and type that the old stain is. If you do remove the old stain then yes you can use an airless to apply. We would need the total sq. footage for the amount of TWP needed.
I am about to apply a 2nd & 3rd coat of TWP stain on my deck. The 1st coat was applied 2 years ago & is looking really thin. First, I’ll be using the remainder of a 5 gallon can from 2 yrs ago. Is it still good? Second, I seem to remember that you don’t have to use a brightened on reapplications. Can I buy just the cleaner? Third, since the original stain is getting very thin, could/should I apply a 4th coat? Thanks!
Use both the cleaner and brightener for the prep. Not sure of the stain is still good. Probably not as the shelf life is less them 12 months after opening. No you cannot over apply TWP. After the prep you can apply 1 or 2 coats depending on the porosity of the wood.
