sanded to bare wood.Pressure washed, 1/4 cup tsp to a gallon bleach with 3 gallons water, soak 15 min, pressure wash off, dried 10 days.I’m using the twp 100 1st coat cedartone natural 2nd rustic oak. Stained 3 sides of cabin today, coverage is 160 sq ft per gallon, very thirsty wood, that’s why I need a lighter color 1st, the wood would darken too much. my question is northern Minnesota next 3 days
dry, temps 65 days 45 nights, the wood sucked up all the stain I could give it today but because of 45 degree nights it will not be dried/cured. Am I wrong/not correct to put that 2nd coat on tomorrow
do I wait till next year, wood still thirsty at 160 sq ft coverage, and also marine grade treated plywood, can I stain now or wait till next year
Thanks! Chris/slave
TWP is to be applied wet on wet. It would be best to light rinse with water and add the other coat next Spring. If the plywood is new, you should wait until next Spring as well to stain.

Rough sawn cut or smooth like a deck board? Makes a big difference as to if you can stain now or will you have to wait for weathering. Also where do you live?

Darker colors typically can give a little better UV protection. See this about new wood:

Is it okay to apply a second coat now over the dry coat?
I noticed you state second coat wet on wet.
Best to not do it right now. Wait until Spring and lightly wash deck to remove any dirt first.

No, You have to strip and or sand to remove the Cabot first. Make sure to brighten after.

You would need to use the Restore a Deck Stain stripper to switch to the TWP 100 Series. The 100 is slightly thinner than the 1500.

Saved 2 gallons to finish remaining trim, it didn’t freeze, but its separated. Wand just stirring doesn’t seem to blend well. What should I do?
Probably no good at this point. It should easily mix if still good.

Would you advise wet on wet and it’s a second story deck so I’ll definitely be stepping on the first coat. I should I do it in sections?
Thanks for any info.
I would suggest one coat this year since you sanded and another light coat next year. You do not want to over apply since it is still fairly new and you sanded the wood.

What and how much would you suggest?
Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit. Only 1 is needed. For the TWP 100 Series, you will need 5-6 gallons for two coats applied wet on wet.
I have 2 decks previously covered in solid color stain. Both about 15 years old. One redwood (good shape), one douglas fir (need some boards replaced). Both sun faded and mostly the exposed portion of the boards are gray. I would like to use a semi Transparent stain. I’m afraid I won’t be able to remove all of the solid color stain even after sanding and or pressure washing (mostly the area on the sides of the boards). Should I just use a solid color stain again? It seems solid color doesn’t last very long. (I’ve restained a few times)
TWP only comes in semi-transparent colors. You will need to remove the solid stain 100% first to be able to use TWP.

This deck is to be installed at ground level over pressure treated joists. Therefore, I can’t wait 3 months after installation to stain the underside of the boards. After doing a lot of reading, I thought I could sand and stain the under side, edges, and ends before installing, and then wait 3 months or so before cleaning and staining the the top surface. Would this work? Ideally I would sand and stain the boards on all sides and then install them, but I’m worried about those results. Please advise.
Hello, we do not advise staining all sides and there is not an advantage to this. Please install, wait 4+ months, prep with Gemini Kit, and stain the exposed wood. You can read this article for more info:
Hi;
2 years ago I stripped the Cabots off my 2 x 4 cedar deck (not new wood, but some new planks) and applied 1 coat of TWP-100 cedar. It help up pretty well, and now it’s time to re-coat. The idea was not to have to strip it again. So this time I will replace about 25 boards, so will have some new wood again.
1/ After using the 2 part cleaner, stabilizer you offer, I would like to go to a darker shade, pecan etc. Can I go to TWP 1500 w/o stripping, or if I find a shade I prefer, or do I have to stick to TWP-100?
Bes to stay within the 100 Series. Try the 120 Pecan. It is more of a brownish cedartone.
