Can twp100 be applied over very weathered olympic maximum which is about 4 years old.

Just so you know, new wood is supposed to weather for 4-12 months, prepped properly, and only 1 coat of TWP should be applied the first time.
Jackie, more than likely she used a stain that darkened in color to turn brown. Nothing last more then 6-8 years on vertical siding.

Original owner says it was not stained only sealed but I question her memory because every salesperson I’ve talked to has said that they can’t believe the wood would still be brown after all these years. They also say that there is nothing on the market that would be as maintenance-free as whatever was used. Is one of your products longer lasting and more maintenance-free than the others? Do you have any idea what might have been available 45yrs ago that would’ve lasted this long?

July 2012 we installed a new cedar deck after sanding and staining boards with one coat of TWP. We tried applying second coat within 10-60 minutes but second coat wouldn’t dry — maybe due to high humidity. One year later wood has now lightened and we want to apply additional TWP maintenance coat. Do we need to completely wash and brighten with Gemini products or can we just wash/scrub well with water and a little bleach? We’ll wait 48 hrs to allow wood to dry first. If we need Gemini, where can we buy it locally?
Anne, you should wipe them up unless you stain the floors within an hour.
I’m using the twp 101 right now. I am staining the spindles and handrails first and then the floor boards. Do I need to do anything about little splatters that get on the floorboards?
Latoya, use a stain stripper or wood cleaner for the prep and a pressure washing. Brighten when done. Stain with the TWP 100 or 1500 for this log home.

I have a Mahogany deck 500 sq ft I have stripped it down to bare wood. The deck is about 15 years old and good condition. I have used penofin natural finish in the past. What wound be the best TWP product to use?
TLM, TWP is not compatible with the Arbor Coat. It may blend but it also may peel where it lies on top of the Arbor Coat.
Cedar, SE exposure in Michigan, about 10 years old, in good condition
Previously covered with Benjamin Moore Arbor Coat, which has peeled terribly each year.
i have been able to remove the Arbor sealer and most of the stain with Behr stripper, but there are places where the strain is still present.
Difficult to sand because many board are slightly cupped.
Can I recoat with TWP, matching color as closely as possible?
Karen, strip off the Thompsons ans brighten the wood when done before applying the TWP.
Tim, TWP cannot be applied on top of a solid so you must remove all of it. Must likely by sanding.

Deck is about 20 yrs old in Minnesota. Believe it is pressure treated. Overall wood is solid, with a couple of very small areas of decay (on end grain). Stained last year with a solid water based product. Stain peeled after 6 mo. Deck has been pressure washed and 95% of the existing stain is gone. Any suggestions?

No it will not stop dog urine or scratches.
This is probably a stupid question but I’m not an expert deck refinisher.
When you say 2 coats, wet on wet, how do you do that with out wrecking the first coat, when you have to step on it to do the second coat? Also, I have a small dog that scratches the steps of the deck when he comes up them and sometimes does his “thing” on the deck. How does this stain hold up to those things?
eck, yes that would be correct. Use the TWP 100 for MN. 115 Honeytone is the lightest color.

JohnBek, use the Restore A Deck Stripper and Restore A Deck Brightener for the prep on the older siding. Use the Gemini Restore Kit for the newer siding. Stain with the TWP.
I have all cedar TG siding which I used Cabot on two years ago. My new addition is about 4 months and need to be stained. I didn’t like Cabot and was going to use TWP on it. Which would be best for this and what do I need to do to restrain the older siding .

Kate, you cannot apply the TWP on top of the Cabot. It must be removed first for proper prep.

5. Spindles are in great shape – still beads up and shiny (unsure of where the shine comes from?). Horizontal surfaces nearly bare. Was power washed this weekend.
Will it be ok to use TWP 100 on it this summer? Will I need to use a cleaner/brightener prior to stain? What color is comparable to Cabot Honey Teak? I would need 3 gallons.
Mike Chu, you cannot use TWP on a painted deck. If you were to use TWP you would have to remove the paint 100% by sanding the entire deck.

The 1500 has a higher solid content. The 100 dries a little faster. Otherwise they look similar and perform about the same.

tavery, you can order the Restore A Deck Stripper and the Restore A Deck Brightener separately. You do not need the cleaner if using the stripper.
JoeC, the 200 series is for shakes and shingles. It can be applied to a deck but it will take days or even weeks to fully cure. Please read this about new decking:

working on 6 year old PTpine, it has something transparent on it, problably a water shield product of some sort. hard to get off.

I planned on the stripper just in case I missed some sealer with the sanding( large deck) lots of spindles.

My contractor wants to use TWP200 series for my new KDAT PT Pine deck but all my reasearch says TWP 100 is for decks and 200 is for shingles. Should I force him to use TWP 116 vs TWP 206 or 207 for a pine kild dried pressure treated deck?
John, you cannot use the 100 Series in Maine but you can use the 1500 Series and would work great for your log home. Any high quality caulk should be fine.
I have a new ceder log home in Maine with some graying, mildew spots on logs. The logs have never been treated. Is Twp 100 a good choice for log walls. What caulking would be compatible. We will be caulking a matching color between all logs. Thanks, John

Wood is approximately 13 years old, cedar shake siding and cedar lap siding. The wood is in fairly good condition. This wood was stained with TWP in 2001, prior to installation. This is cedar shingle and lap siding.
What’s a good preparation procedure for re-coating with TWP?
Anne, best to prep the wood that you want to stain with the Gemini Restore Kit then apply the TWP 100 Series 2 coats wet on wet.
Mitch, I would not do anything now but rather do a light maintenance coat late Fall or early Spring to just the horizontals.

Deck is a year old, pressure treated, excellent to good condition, gets a lot of sun from 11am to 8pm (e.s.t) in the summer)I scrubbed it with a bleach and water solution, power washed it, waited a little more than 48 hours to dry
I used a 3/8 nap roller, there are some areas that came out lighter than other areas, some little spots that actually look like a shine to them, but, the shine spots I can live with, what I am wondering is it possible to do a second light coat over the areas that are lighter, or is a second coat only to be done wet over wet and not wet over dry cause it might look even more uneven?
As for the look of the product I thought Natural meant it was going to be,well clear,but,nope it has a light Cherry/Mahogany tone to it,not a complaint I think it is gorgeous the wood deck up against my white vinyl fencing
