Has never been stained, I will be staining deck boards, railing, pergola.
I was wanting to stain all of it before hand, is this wise? What product do you recommend? Wanting a natural look, fairly high traffic area,
Heath, either would work for you. The 1500 would give a little better UV protection from graying.
Staining cypress board and bat barn. Cypress lumber is rough cut. Twp 100 or 1500. I live In southeast texas warm humid climate during spring and summer.
Todd, no you cannot apply TWP on top of the CWF. You must remove it first.
I replaced a 800 sq ft deck last summer, waited 3-4 months and applied the TWP 1500. It really is a wonderful product and exceeded my expectations. Still almost looks new and holds the color very well. I plan on adding another coat this summer. The problem is the other older decks with various other stains now look worse compared to the new one. I really don’t want to strip and neutralize the older decks. Would it be a big mistake to just pressure wash and then apply the TWP over the older, worn and patchy stains?
Yes that would be an issue. The TWP will not properly dry into the wood and will fail much faster.
10 year old green pressure treated wood. Wood is in very good condition. Pressure washed and stained with CWF-UV5 Oil stain. As you see, very recently stained and looks o.k., but I am not impressed with the results 8 months later. Flat decking boards look dry. Can I apply TWP 1500 without removing the CWF-UV oil stain applied last August?

Barbara, age for a few months than prep the wood with the Gemini Restore Kit.
New T-111 siding on new wood/tool shed in the shade.
Also some old and dirty plywood floor/shelves.
Do we need to let the siding age before staining ?
Jared P, you will be fine if the rain stays off for 30 hours after completing the staining.
Cathy, you cannot apply TWP on top of the Sikkens. You would need to remove all of the old stain first by stripping and or sanding.
I’ve prepped and cleaned my new deck which has weathered for about 11 months. The weather is supposed to be decent this weekend, and I’d like to get the stain applied before dirty treas (cotton wood and box elder) dirty up the deck. However, the forecast is calling for 40% chance of rain 30-48 hours after I plan to apply the stain (jumps to 80% chance close to the 48 hour window). Should I wait until there is a longer dry spell or is that enough time to put on the recommended 1 coat to a new deck? The instructions call for a 48 hour window, but your site has indicated 12 hours is enough time.
We have an approximately 17-year-old cedar porch previously stained with Sikkens Cetol Deck Finish. The wood is not perfect but is in fair to good condition. I lightly sanded the peeling spots and would like to protect it with your TWP 1500. Any suggestions or tips? I can’t find a dealer in the area so I guess I’ll need to order. Thanks!
Monika, wood filler will not work on outside wood. For the DC area, look at the TWP 1500 Series.
I’ve been researching and found your product to be the best. I have a 20-25 year old deck. It’s not in the best condition with serious greying, splintering, popped nails, etc. Can I use wood putty to fill in the splits and splinters? I can’t affort a new deck now. I just had it power washed yesterday. Which of your products will would be best to use? I live in the DC area. Please help!
Brett, remove the One Time with the Restore A Deck stripper and use the brightener when done. Stain with the TWP 1500 Series. Two coats wet on wet.
30-35 years old.
Green treated pine
Decent for the age
One time wood. 8-10 years ago
South Dakota weather. Partial sun/shade. More shade then sun.
Doug, I highly doubt you can apply Cedarcide on top of TWP. I would ask them but it sounds like it will not work.
Tree, it is a semi-transparent. Please read this about new wood: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Need to protect new deck built with pressure treated lumber in Penna. Location is in the woods so algae/moss is a factor. How soon can I use TWP 1500 on the new deck and will I still need to clean it? Is TWP 1500 a semitransparent or solid stain? Or is it closer to a toner? I would like the protectant to be as close to clear as possible.
Hi,
I like the samples you sent. Ready to stain my treated pine 8′ long x 6′ high prefab (cheap) privacy fence, just prior to sealing with Cedarcide.
My goal is to spray your product on, then immediately go over it with cedarcide….least amount of work with longest time before being forced to re-seal. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Leon, prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit. Stain with 1 coat since it is newer of the 1500 Series.
Age: 6 Months

TWP 1500 is not designed for IPE wood. Sorry.
5 year old IPE
pretty good condition, recently sanded
it is on an exterior deck half sun half shade, located in San Francisco, CA about 5 blocks from the pacific ocean, lots of fog/salt/sun
shady areas developed mold.
i’m considering TWP 1516
auty, you will need to remove all of the old coatings for the TWP to work correctly. Use a stain stripper and or sanding for this. Brighten the wood when done. Use the 1500 Series for this.

Jim, TWP does not come in a solid stain. Only semi-transparent. You should prep with the Gemini Restore Kit after sanding. Two light coats wet on wet and you would need about 10-12 gallons for 1185 sq. feet. We can ship to you from this website.
My home is in San Diego Ca, I have a large exterior wood deck about 10 years old. My contractor has just sanded it down to the bare wood removing an industrial grade material that was rolled on with a heavy rough coat. That product almost right after being applied as per the instructions began to develop blisters throughout the deck. That resulted in a settlement from the manufacturer. I have done a lot of research and your product seems to be the best. The wood is in good shape and the prep is thorough. Should we prime it before putting down TWP 1500, how many coats, price? I have approx 1185 sq ft to cover. I’m thinking a solid stain given prior product on the deck. And, finally where can I buy in the San Diego area.
Thanks
I A Rumble, you should not apply TWP on top of another brand of gray stain. You would want to remove it first by stripping or sanding the wood. Once done, apply wood brightener. Stain with the 1500 after the prep. We sell online.
Chuck, you cannot apply a spar varnish on top of TWP.
Wood is probably 15 year treated pine in worn condition. Previously stained grey. Need to do 100s of square feet of decking. Need to know what stain you would recommend, cost and if available in sores or only online.
Hi, last summer I purchased from you TWP 1500 to protect my new cedar deck – it worked great and looks great. My question: I am building a new screen door out of cedar and have stained it with TWP 1500. Can I apply spar varnish over TWP? I asume I can but want to check first.
Tom Camp, you can wait a maximum of two weeks after prepping, before staining.
I have a 12×8 deck & a 8×8 pool deck almost 1 yr old, salt treated pine? wood in full sun already showing wear. It is untreated, if prepped according to instructions, how long can you leave the area before getting it stained? I have a sample of the redwood stain for the twp 1500 stain, just tried it today.
Natef, you can get the amount of product needed by using the calculator on the right. For your area (NC) you can use either the 1500 and 100 Series. Most use the 100 series there.
Yes that is correct. Prep first with Gemini Restore Kit.
We applied 2 coats of TWP 1502 a year ago, I understand that we should apply 1 more coat this year. Is this correct?
I have a pressure treated pine/hemlock wood deck. It is made of decking material. We allowed it to weather and dry for 9 months. The wood is in excellent condition. it has colored slightly. It has never been stained. It is 20X30 ft.
What do i need to order for my project? DO I need the 100 series or the 1500 series. I want an oil stain that durable to wear and tear and the sun. i live in NC
Please advise. Thank you!

Prep the wood to remove the mill glaze with the Gemini Restore Kit. Stain with the TWP 1503 Dark Oak if looking for a dark color.
I purchased a new cypress porch swing and outdoor furniture that will have some exposure to weathering (sunlight, rain, etc.). I would like to apply a stain to obtain a darker color than the natural cypress while still preserving the look of the wood grain (darkest possible), and if needed, coating with something to protect from the elements (South Louisiana). Which of your products would you recommend to complete this task? And any suggestions or recommendations for application would be greatly appreciated.
Chuckmistr, TWP will show the natural grain and will not hide it. For Ohio you would want the TWP 1500 Stain. Prep first with the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper and a pressure washing to remove the Olympic. Use the Restore A Deck Brightener after. Read this about colors:

I have a 20 year old cedar deck that still looks like new after cleaning, removal of the old stain and re-applying (every two to three years). I have been using Olympic Maximum Tinted Waterproofing Sealant / Cedar Naturaltone Toner. I am very happy with the way it looks when applied, but after one to two years it doesn’t look very good. They have also recently changed their formula to a water base that makes me nervous. I want to try TWP, but want to make sure the natural cedar grain and color shows through. I have shied away from semi-transparents because I’m afraid they may cover up the cedar – but have heard good things about yours. Which series would you recommend and in what color? Should I go with “natural” or a cedar tone? Also, what “prep” would you recommend before applying? I live in Ohio. Thanks!
jay67, TWP clear cannot be tinted but you can mix it will other TWP colors. If you want to use the TWP 1500 Series then you will need to remove the Super Deck completely from the wood first. This will ensure that the TWP can penetrate into the wood grain.
age – 4 yrs (No California – hot/cold temp range 110-30.
Redwood

used super deck waterborne redwood stain 3 x
18*8 deck
Is yours clear stain or can it be tinted ?
hard to tell if comment/question actually sent !
Roger, look at the TWP 1516 Rustic Color for your porch. Amount needed depends on the total sq. footage. You can use the calculator to the right. Mahogany does spread farther so you can round down for the stain. Only 1 coat for Mahogany decking.
The porch is a covered, mahogany floor. The wood is 10 years old and last treated two years ago with Benjamin Moore exterior alkyd transparent stain that is faded but not peeling. The area is 35×7 with three steps that are each 1×11. The porch is covered and gets some morning sun and the steps get full morning sun. Previous applications have faded quickly and don’t look good for very long. Plan to clean with Gemini RAD and apply TWP stain. What color do you recommend to make the mahogany wood stand out? How many gallons do you think I need and how many RAD kits do I need? The home is in Ct. Does this sound like a good plan for my situation? Thank you very much.
Todd, there is not a “medium” brown color with TWP. Dark Oak is a dark brown. The 1501 Cedartone is a little “browner” then the pecan on older wood. You can mix colors as well. Meaning add some Dark Oak to the 1520 Pecan would probably work. Might want to get a few samples to test.
I used pecan before and thought it was a little too orange. What would you suggest for a shade more brown?
Yes there is an EPA registered mildew preventative in the TWP. TWP is the only stain on the market that has this EPA preservative.
