Existing deck:
Cedar, 4 yrs., Good Condition.
Lower deck = 500 SqFt
Stairs w/landing = 100 SqFt
Upper deck = 240 SqFt.
Total = 840 SqFt.
Handrail caps and deck surface will be done only. (not stiles and post they are painted white)
Currently has Behr Cedar Naturaltone 501
Would like to strip/brighten/stain with TWP 1500 Ceader. Best process recommended, and do I need to protect all railings upper and lower with plastic or will care and pre-rinsing do the job?
Strip off as much as you can of the Behr with the RAD Stripper. Sand off the rest. Brighten all when done. Stripper does not remove the white paint. Once prepped you can stain a few days later with the TWP 1500.
I applied TWP 1500 to my 8 year old deck yesterday (never been treated before). I used the two coat wet on wet method. I finished around 4:00PM and at around midnight we got hit with heavy rain. The deck looked dry a few hours after staining it and the rain is pooled on the deck this morning. IS it safe to say everything is fine?
Mot likely nothing is wrong. Let dry for a couple of days and check.

Try the 1516 color for this.
I have a new barn with vertical rough sawn cypress siding.
What would you recommend as a sealer that would protect but not change the natural color of the cypress?
Thanks,
If you go clear than you will not have UV protection from graying. Must have a tint if you want to retain color. Please read this about colors: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-1500-colors-explained/
I have a redwood fence (most likely Pacific redwood) that is between 8-12 months old. We pressure washed the inside and stained it with the California Redwood TWP 1500. It looks good, but the color is more golden/orange than I had hoped. It was hard to tell with the sample since it didn’t cover very much. I think the Redwood color is too red, based on the sample. Are any of the other colors, like Pecan or Cedartone somewhere in between? I think a color in the middle of California Redwood and Redwood would be what I’m looking for. I’m not sure if the stains can be mixed or not.
Yes you can mix two colors of the TWP together.

What color would new pine wood deck be with natural or honey tone stain?
I had a new cedar deck built. I hired a “painter” who used Porter Acri-Shield stain. Semi-Transparent alkyd/oil. It has been on the deck for about 6 months. The application was splotchy , and we have a lot of fading. My plan is to use TWP 1500. There is no flaking, do I need to use a deck cleaning agent before I apply or stripper?
You cannot apply TWP on the Porter. Strip and or sand to remove. Brighten wood when done.
I just applied the TWP1500 in natural to my new Hemlock posts and headers. The color of the wood is now very orange which I do NOT like.Is there anything I can do to tone down the orange color? I would like it to be more grey or brown to look more natural. Any suggestions without re-sanding and starting over? It took a professional painter a full day to apply the TWP. Thanks in advance for your help.
You cannot tone down the color unfortunately. There is not a grey color in the 1500 Series maybe the Dark Oak color for a brown. Please read this for color tips: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-1500-colors-explained/
What do you recommend for sealing exterior cypress? Also, I want to stain some cypress beams in the interior of my house also. I’ve read that you have to but a sealer on them first like Bullseye shellac, lightly sand them with steel wool and then apply a stain. What process do you recommend for staining process.
Thanks
Brian
No you cannot apply a shellac first than stain. It will never absorb. In addition you cannot apply shellac on top of the TWP. You can use the 1500 Series on the Cypress with no issues.

Wood is 1 year old. I was told to let it season.

no stain has been used.
We used trexx for screened deck. I want to use Dark walnut so do I need to use wood brightner? since it will be covered with dark stain.
I think I only need two gallons. How long does the stain last if I buy a 5gallon pale?
Thanks, Rex

It’s is treated fir, now 4 years old. Old stain is almost peeled off.
How do we rid of the left over paint? Pressure wash or chemical treatment? Then please advise with the next steps we should take. Thanks.
D and S, chemical stripper and pressure washing to remove the Behr. You may need to sand as well. Once removed, stain with the 1500 Series.
3 year old cedar was stained 2 years ago with sillkins. All pealed off power washed all off.

So 1500 clear is to be used by itself or mixed with another 1500 stain. What is the effect of mixing it? Does it just affect the color/tone?
I had a 5 gal bucket of your twp 100. I used up the 5 gal bucket on my fence and had to buy 7 more gallons. The original 5 gallon bucket may have been 3-4 years old in cedartone. The new twp 100 is probably 2 shades lighter than the older twp 100. Now I have 2 different colored fence. How can the shade change that much and what do I do now to get my fence to match? I have always use twp but that will change after my recent experience. Fence looks awful.
Jeff, it is the shelf life of the product that most likely caused this. You were far outside it.
I had my deck stained with TWC California Cedar 3 years ago. I washed deck and still see heavier paint strokes from the original application. Do I have to strip the surface again, or just apply TWC 1500 right over the remaining stain? The wood is 10 years old, 431 sq. ft.
If the old coating of TWP is uneven than you should strip it off and brighten the wood for the prep.
