my deck is not in great shape, having been neglected for several years. we previously used wolman brand, durastain in semi transparent stain, color red cedar. Can I use the TWP product over this product? Also, what TWP color would cover the red cedar color that is on there now?
Hi,
Just built a picnic table out of cedar. Should I wait a period (6 months?) before staining? Which series would you recommend to keep that “cedar” red look going forward? Thanks!

Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit and use the TWP 1500 Series.

Prep first with the Gemini Restore kit and a pressure washer. Stain with 1500 Series.
3 yr old red cedar fence with a lattice top band used as an outdoor shower enclosure (3 – 8ft W x 6ft H sections) under a 2nd story deck located in SE Pennsylvania has never been stained, cleaned or treated with any product. Enclosure sits above a travertine paver floor on the 12-inch tall concrete footer piers supporting the deck. Only the south and west facing sections get direct sun while the east-facing section is completely shaded by the deck above. I want to finish the interior surface so it remains bright and natural since there’s no direct sunlight and stain the exterior. What products should provide the best results, what type of applicator is suggested for each step, and what type of annual maintenance will be required for the inside and outside surfaces?
Use the 1500 Series for all and a stain pad applicator for applying. You will need to redo the outside every 2-3 years. Inside every 3+ years.

Natural is not clear but tinted. The clear has not color and will also not prevent the sun from graying the wood. Must have a tinted color for UV protection.

The next porch is 3-4 times larger and many years older ( 12 – 35). Though I have your stripper, and have pressure washed it, Im tempted to use a less opaque and more solid stain to cover the ancient and far gone wood. What do you think?
Solid colors stains will peel and TWP does not make a solid stain. Just semi-transparents.

I notice that your stain leaves a glossy/shiny finish on some of the boards. Is there something that I am doing wrong or will this tone down after some time? I am using a 4 inch stain brush to apply & I am putting on a good 1st coat. I purchased the TWP 1500 cedarstain.
TWP is not supposed to leave a shine. If it does than you are over applying or did not prep well enough so the TWP can penetrate completely.

We just stained our front and back porches using TWP 1530 (natural color). We just bought the house so we don’t know what kind of wood the porches are made of nor how old they are, but I assume several years old. The porches had been stained previously with Australian timber oil, which is now not VOC compliant in our state. We first stripped the original stain using Benjamin Moore product called “remove”, then we rinsed the porches with water and gave them a light sanding before applying the TWP in two light coats. Now it has been 30 hours of drying, and some spots still look shiny (but they don’t feel tacky to the touch). Any idea what happened? I don’t mind the shiny parts so much as long as the wood is still protected. Any hints for what we should do differently next time to avoid having shiny parts? And do you think this is something we need to address ASAP, or can we wait to address it until the next time we decide to stain our porches?

If we choose darkest 1500 color, can we move away from redwood color? Lots of plants surrounding so don’t want to use dangerous chemicals.
No if you have a old stain you cannot cover it with the TWP. You need to remove the old stain with a stain stripper and pressure washing or sanding.

I plan to rinse/blow the fence off again the day before staining. Before I buy I’m wondering if the 100 or 1500 would be the better option? I’m looking to use the Dark Oak color. I also plan to use this same stain on the deck and kids playset. Also, are the samples available for purchase going to be the same regardless if we go 100 or 1500? Thanks for for time and knowledge!
The samples are different between the series. I would use the 100 for this scenario in Missouri.

However, I can’t find anything on this site about applying this stain…
What is the best applicator? brush, sprayer? I see that you sell some kind of mop. Is that what should be used??????
Should or can you put 2 coats of stain on the deck? What is recomended? This web site seems to be very lacking of information. Are there any PDF’s that I can download with directions and recomendations that I can read before buying tghe stain?
Was the Flood that was used the oil based version or the water based version? Hopefully the oil and can be stripper off with the Restore A Deck stain Stripper and pressure washing. Needs to be brightened when done. You can respond to this via email with pics.

TWP is not a synthetic stain but oil based and you can purchase right from our website.

You will need to remove 100% of the Arbor coat if you want to use TWP or any other brand of stain. You will need to sand it all off, then use the Gemini Restore Kit for the final prep.

If i wanted to put more on now should I wait a month or so or wait until next year?
My cedar deck is 6 years old. It has had a number of different stains applied and stripped off. The first was Cabots oil based, followed by Home Depots transparent, and then semi transparent. The Cabots was very prone to mildew. The Home Depot stains pealed up with in a year. The wood is in good condition, and I have sanded all the stain off. What prep should I do from here? One section of deck gets sun light the entire day, the other tow are under cover of a roof.

No we do not have a matching color. You would need to remove the cabot 100% before using the TWP. TWP cannot be applied on top of this.
