You need to remove all of the Behr for the TWP to work correctly. At least 95% or more.

Some deck floor boards (standard treated pine) replaced 4 months ago, the rest are close to 18 years old. Deck has been powerwashed. Should deck cleaner be used? How do I blend in the new boards with the old? Is there a better color (darker) I should use to blend in the boards?
Thank you

I have a 5 year old cedar deck that has been stained twice with Ultra advanced alkyd oil formula I am unhappy with previous brand since I don’t seem to make it even a year before the stain looks worn. The deck is exposed to the sun for most of the day and has very little traffic. I am looking for a product that will hold up better and what you recommend for the entire prep. THe deck is @2000 square feet
First off you will need to remove the Ultra before applying the TWP. This will not be easy with two coats of the Acrylic. You can use the Restore A Deck Stripper and pressure washing to remove what you can but you will probably need to sand the rest off. Once the old stain is removed from the deck you will need to apply the RAD wood brightener. After wood is prepped you will be able to apply the TWP 1500.

This is a follow-on to my previous question today. The deck is pressure treated wood. Not sure if white pine. Almost has a grain pattern like oak. I’m using Dark Oak stain.

It will not continue to absorb at this point so best to wipe done the excess stain with mineral spirits and rags now. Saturate rags with water when done to avoid accidental spontaneous combustion.

Wood is 2 years old
Oak
Good – clean,dry,and mold free
Has not been stained
Large deck
I applied the TWP 1500 series to the deck floor by rolling and brushing. The deck is mostly shaded but does get a couple hrs of filtered sun per day. Some of the planks have absorbed the oil and are almost dry (more in the sunny area). Some of the wood has not and there are shiny spots. It has been about a week and the shiny spots are still there. The weather is cool (70’s) and dry. I tested the wood before I started to stain because the previous week it rained a little almost every day. It seemed OK to stain because the wood absorbed the water in about 20 mins. The spindles that I stained turned out nice with no shiny spots. Should I continue to wait and see of more oil is absorbed or take mineral spirits and rags and wipe off the shiny spots. Appreciate your help.

You cannot apply TWP over the Cabot. You will need to strip that as well.

For SC you should use the TWP 100 Series. Prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit. You can order both from our website.

I am impressed with what I’m reading about your 1500 Series stain but am concerned with the area under the overhang.
Please provide step by step prep instructions for the entire deck, including under the overhang and railings and under the deck. Sanding required on deck and railings? I have met with many contractors and some powerwash, some use a chemical treatment. Which do you recommend?
This represents a large investment and I don’t want to make a mistake in preparation. If your product is oil -based, will it have to be stripped down the road to retreat?
Where do I purchase your product near Fredericksburg, VA.? Please reply to my email. Thanks.
Remove the Sikkens first with the Restore deck stain stripper and pressure washer. Use the Gemini Restore Kit for the rest of the wood. Sand only if needed to remove the rest of the Sikkens that did not come off. TWP is oil based and can be cleaned and reapplied as needed without stripping. We ship to VA.

I have about 400 square feet of deck previously stained with Benjamin Moore semi transparent. Have sanded as much of the previous finish off as possible. Mostly down to bare wood.
I applied TWP 1500 stain to my ~ 20 yr old deck a few weeks ago. More than a week after the stain was applied, we got a heavy rain storm. The stain looked fine afterwards, but the rain pooled all over the deck. I’m talking about puddles, not just little beads of water. We’ve gotten rain twice since then and the same thing has happened each time – lots of rain remains on the boards and does not evaporate, even 10 hours after the storm it’s still very wet. After each storm I’ve brushed the water off with a broom. Never had this problem before I restained the deck.
How long will the rain continue to pool? And is it necessary to brush the water off (or will it cause any damage if it isn’t brushed)? Appreciate any other suggestions, thanks for your help.

When using TWP you should wait 4-12 months for the stain. Prep with the Gemini Restore kit.
I was looking to see how long of a wait is needed before applying twp 1500? I just installed a new double kiln dried pt pine deck 8/3. Since it a month old it should be okay since it is kiln dried. You will need to prep and remove the mill glaze with the Gemini Restore Kit first. Only one coat of the 1500.
I finished staining my deck last weekend. After a day of drying I immediately realized that I had over applied the stain in places and the deck was looking Shiny (more like a glazed donut). In the last 3-4 days we have had a couple of showers and I noticed that there is small puddles of water standing on the deck after the rain. Initially I thought it was okay and eventually the extra stain will wear off. But today I noticed that in certain areas which were Shiny immediately after staining are now turning slightly greenish. So I took long brush and tried to wipe away the water.
Please advise on next steps.

Not much you can do now. Just leave alone and in a year or two you will need to strip it off and start over.

Age of wood? – Unknown, was there when we purchases home.
Type of wood? Presser Treated Pine
Condition of the wood? Most was covered in mold/mildew. I’ve pressure washed everything and it is now mold/mildew free.
Has it been stained previously and if so with what brand of stain? I believe there was a stain on at least a portion on it, but I do not know what kind.
We are on a lake in VT. There are a lot of stairs and railings and a small deck. The area has already been pressure washed. Is there anything else I need to do before stain/sealer? The wood looks OK after pressure washing.

The main difference is VOC compliancy. Please read this about new wood:
