You need the Gemini Kit for the prep. Brightener only is not prep enough.

My question is, should i use the 100 or 1500 stain? If the 100 is a better choice, In the future would I be able to use the 1500 over it with out having to strip the old 100 stain?

Use the 1500 for the verticals rough sawn wood of your shed.

You should strip off the rest of the Sikkens if needed. Shoot for 95-100% removal. Apply the wood brightener when done.

Cleaning it with solvent took the mildew away, but left some of the old stain. Should I power-wash and/or sand the deck before applying a new stain? Also, I hear latex stains do not work over old oil stains unless stripped completely, is that accurate?
You need to remove the Sikkens first before using TWP. All TWP stains are oil based, not water based. You still need to remove the Sikkens first.

We recently purchased a home in Indiana. We have about a 400 sq ft. deck out back and we found some notes from the previous owner saying that the deck had been stained with TWP 101 Cedartone Natural back in 2008. I’m not sure if it has been treated since and was wondering what you would suggest to treat it with. The part that was protected from sunlight looks almost new still, but the part out in the sun has some wear. The wood looks to be in good shape still, with no serious damage.
Prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit and stain with the same TWP 101 Cedartone.

I also bought the deck cleaner which I am planning on using in another month. My question is: Do I need to clean the test boards before I apply the stain? I am not sure if the color would be that much different if I didn’t. Also I will need about 7 gallons of 1500 to do our deck. If I buy 10 gallons will the remaining 3 gallons keep for 2 or 3 years? What is the shelf life? Thank you..
The sample boards could be a little lighter in color based them not being fully exposed. Please read this about shelf life:

No you cannot put TWP on top of the Sikkens. It needs to be removed first.
deck built August of 2014 with pressure treated lumber has not been stained or treated as we were advised to let it “cure” until this spring.
Deck is 16X20 with approx. 16X12-16X14 under-roof. The remaining 16X 6-8 is exposed. Also has a rather large set of stairs that are exposed. There are 7 steps that are maybe 4-5 foot wide. We will only need to stain and seal the floor of the deck and steps as the railings and support pieces are White vinyl.
We live just outside of Paducah, KY 42001.
Would like to know:
1.) When can I stain this. April? May?
2.) Does the deck need to be cleaned first? And if so, what should be used and how?
3.) Do I need a separate stain and sealer or is it an all in 1 product?
4.)Should I use TWP 100 or 1500?
5.) where can I buy TWP locally – Paducah KY 42001
6.) What supplies do I need? How many gallons of stain? What kind of roller/brush?
1. Either is fine
2. Yes prep with Gemini Kit
3. TWP is all in one
4. Use the 100 Series
5. We sell online and can ship there in 2-3 days
6. We need a total sq footage for the amount of stain. Use stain pads for applying. All other info is on our help site:

I had follow all the steps that are indicated in the can, such as temperature, future weather conditions, etc.
every time I fishing the deck the look great, they since to dry even I made sure that not to over applied the stain, etc, but unfortunately I always get I call the next morning that the deck has water marks, and no rain.
This is what my customer wrote.
“” It looks like dew from the morning gathered on the gutters and dripped down on a couple of the boards on the deck so there are little spots. Will this fade?”‘
Can some body help me with this, I just finished this deck yesterday in the afternoon and the deck is located in Alamo, California and as you know we are in a serious drought
It should be nothing permanent. Might just be mineral deposits from water that dried on top of the surface. This wipes off with a wet rag.

No that cannot fix this. You would need to strip it all done to fix the over applied spots and shiny areas. You would need the Restore a Deck Stripper and the brightener.

Two years ago it was unevenly coated with clear TWP 1500, leaving orange streaks or blotches in spots, especially on north facing walls. In other areas it has aged to a beautiful silver gray. How do I remove the the coating in the blotched or streaked areas so the wood can match the naturally aged wood around it?
You cannot spot strip. You would have to strip all and that would remove the gray as well.

15 years old
Fair / poor condition
Berh clear stain currently used
Home in the Seattle area with little protection from eves
What product will be best an last longest 1500 or 100
The 100 and 1500 last about the same. Where you live would make the difference. You would need to remove the Behr first before using TWP. This would need to be done by stripping/powerwashing and or sanding. Use a wood brightener after removal as well.

1. Do we have to sand it before applying the stain?
2. How often does the stain need to be reapplied?
3. We are in So. Calif. where the sun is very strong and it is very dry, so will the stain/ sealer flake off in these conditions?
4. Since bamboo is not really wood, are we looking at the correct product, the TWP 1500?
Thank you for providing this forum.

We live in Northern California and are building a new barn that will have kiln dried, resawn face, Inland Red Cedar. Do we need to let the wood weather or can we stain the wood right away. I have seen conflicting recommendations regarding kiln dried and resawn face siding.
Thank you.
Reswn kiln dried wood is fairly absorbent so you can go ahead and apply now. I would test a spot though to see if it will take just one coat or two coats. If two coats fully absorb into the wood then apply wet on wet. If only one coat fully soaks in then apply one now and a second in 12-24 months:

The color is lighter than I anticipated. Thinking of going to your darker Rustic color. Question, can I stain over the Cedar color with the Rustic. Will it soak in adequately and keep the darker color or not. Suggestions.
No it will not soak in now. Best to leave it alone and redo later on.

We also have 6 panels of lattice that will need to be done also. I don’t mind a little bit of ‘elbow grease’, but if I am going to go to the expense, time and effort to do the job, I want it to last as long as possible. I also thought I’d ask if you ever run any promotions, sales, etc. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
