I have power spray-cleaned my approxiamately 15 year old 1000 sq ft redwood deck that has never been stained or sealed. The wood is in decent shape – gray and showing some cracking but otherwise looks good.
The location is central California — the deck gets full sun to part shade.
I am planning on staining with TWP 1500 cedar tone.
Do I need to further pre-treat or clean? Would you guess do to the age that I would need two application (wet-on-wet) to get the best results necessitating ordering two 5 gallon pails?
Thank you
Yes you should apply two coats one on wet to this dried out deck. Two of the 5 gallons should be correct amount. Prep additionally with the Gemini Restore Kit to remove the rest of the gray.
Hi there,
I have a few questions for installing a new deck.
-I’ve heard you should wait 3-12 months to stain new, smooth cedar decking. Is this accurate? How much wait time do you recommend with a new deck?
-Part of the deck is ironwood. How well does the 1500 absorb into ironwood?
-Should I stain the underside and edges of the deck before installing it?
Thanks so much!
-Wait 4-12 months then prep with Gemini Kit.
-No it is not designed for ironwoods
-No need to do the undersides or edges.

Try the 1511 California Redwood.
does 1500 clear protect as well as Cedartone or Natural. I’m looking for transparent, I understand there are less solids in clear and there for less protection, is this correct?
There is no UV protection form graying in the clear. It will still protect from water, mold, etc.

Type of wood? Cedar
Condition of the wood? Good.
Has it been stained previously and if so with what brand of stain? Yes, unknown brand, semi-transparent.
Looking to strip, brighten, sand and restain our cedar garage door. Used TWP on the deck, but just wondering if we could also use on the door and then finish with a high-end clear varnish. Thanks!
You cannot apply a varnish over the TWP. Use the Restore A Deck products for the strip and brighten before applying the TWP.
850sq foot deck Half covered half uncovered cedar. 2 years old. Treated initially with Seal-Once which was worthless and sanded whole deck after one year. Then applied Penofin. Uncovered part of decked developed lots of mold/mildew(we live in Tacoma,WA) cleaned with 30 second cleaner and now ready to stain the uncovered part but covered appears fine. Can we stain with TWP over Penofin? would like to used a semi-solid stain. Appreciate your thought and recommendations
No you cannot, you have to remove the Penfoin with the Restore A Deck Stripper and a pressure wash. Use the Restore A Deck Brightener when finished. Once removed you can use the TWP.

Depends on weather conditions and age of the deck. Could be 4-12 hours.

Prep with the Gemini Restore Kits and stain with the TWP 100 Series. For the Kits you will need about 4 for the 3400 sq. feet. That includes both sides. As for the stain. You will need 25-35 gallons for two coats and both sides. Hard to say exactly as coverage depends on the wood porosity and application method.
The large deck/porch was half done on Sat. It rained Sunday overnight hard, and when the contractor returned to finished Monday morning, he wiped away the water off/down the tops of the uncovered landing, and steps. It dried in full sun (90 degrees) about 4 hrs and then he stained it as he said the wood dried out enough. I’m just concerned that he applied it too early, just to complete the job to get paid. How much time should be considered ‘long enough’ to determine whether I was right? Or what should I look for?
Hard to say if there will be an issue or not. As long as the TWP soaks into the wood and dries fully then most likely it will be fine.

You use the
Gemini Restore Kit while pressure washing. Yes you would need the 1500 series for Ohio.

Weathered
Not been stained previously
Gets exposed to all four seasons ranging from cold, snowy and dry all the way to hot, and humid with our fair share of rain as well.

Prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit. Stain with the TWP 1500 Series. Does not matter if done now or in the Fall.

The logs need to be cleaned and or stripped of any previous coatings. A wood brightener should be applied as final prep. Chink after or before.

Clean and brighten for prep to remove the gray and mold using the Gemini Restore Kit. Stain with two coats of the TWP applied wet on wet. Outdoor rugs are fine after fully dry.

Would like a bit of color to the deck to make it look good again. Approx. 1200 sq.ft. of deck with steps and railing. I have a pressure washer. Do I need to do anything more to prep surface? Use the Gemini Restore Kit while pressure washing. TWP can be sprayed but you should back brush to ensure an even coverage of the TWP.

Yes you need to prep to remove mill glaze. Use the Gemini Restore Kit. Just one coat of the TWP for the first time staining.

Because it’s not a solid surface like a deck and is instead just a series of posts and beams, what would be the easiest way to apply the stain, meaning should we use a brush, rag, etc?
