I used TWP 1515 on my fence and I am very satisfied with the result. I am adding wood handrails or grab rails to the stairs from a nearby deck and am considering to use the same TWP 1515 to finish the handrails. Do to the constant touching and grabbing that will occur with the handrails, should I consider any kind of additional finish on the handrails after applying the TWP, such as tung oil? The handrails are made from new, unfinished clear wood, probably cedar.
Thanks,
Bill
You cannot add a coating on top of the TWP. No need either.

— cedar
— existing stain is faded, worn on edges; looks thin in sunlight, can see wood grain easily

–will re-do entire swingset (12’long, A-frame)
Strip and brighten for the prep and use the TWP 1500 Series for the play set.

If it does not have any color then it will not protect from UV graying. Must have a tint and that will change the color. I am confused to your amount. What is the total amount of sq. footage for the siding?

Yes it would work well. Prep with a light pressure washing and the Gemini Restore Kit to remove the gray first. Apply two coats “wet on wet” for this old and dried out wood.

Yes but the TWP has a strong oil odor that will take time to dissipate so you will not want to actually live indoors until it has dissipated.

In order to get down to the bare wood it was sanded multiple times as well as power washed and bleached. There is still remnants of old color. We are in western Mass, winters harsh. I do want some pigment, but want the grain to come through. What product do you reccomend?
For MA you have to use the TWP 1500 Series.

Thank you.
The prep you have will work but make sure to lightly clean and brighten after the sanding.
Got started using Arborcoat cedar oil translucent stain. Looks good, taking well even over mixed brands of stains used over the years on new and old decks, siding & trim. Today’s project: New deck boards, left untreated for 2 weeks, then lightly stained. Read your excellent reviews so I’m thinking of changing to your brand for the second coat and full treatment over the 30-year old cedar house. (Last full treatment on 2,000 sf house 10 years ago, with retouching feathered in on sun exposed areas) Should I let new deck weather over the winter before doing second coat? Arborcoat looks acceptable but your product is better rated. Test coats show house seems to take oil-based stain quite well, even though some areas appear to have had a previous water-based coat– well worn, acceptable, rich varied look.
Adele, you cannot apply the TWP over a stain of a different brand without removing the coating fully first. See here as well about new wood:
We are getting ready to stain a large cedar deck. We have let it age and weather four months and used the recommended cleaner and brightener. It was a very big job to apply those products, but it is done and ready to stain.
Our question is what happens after this in several years when it is ready to stain again. The can says it needs to be stripped…do we really need to do that to reuse the same product? I thought we would go through a similar cleaning and power wash steps maximum.
Advice? We are waiting to stain until we know what we will be in for in the future.
You can use the same Gemini Restore Kit for reapplying with TWP. One coat and read this article on new wood:

For the job below, new red cedar wood, four months old, cleaned and brightened, should we apply one or two coats?

Deck
Hi, I cleaned and brightened the deck a week ago. No rain until application. Yesterday evening I applied one coat twp1500 with a brush. Before finishing it up for the day, used dry cloth over the complete deck to take off stain which was sitting on top as good as possible. This morning, 8 hours later, still a greasy shine on the deck,
What can I do? Shall try to get it off with a dry cloth again?
It will cure and dry but of you want to speed up the process then yes you can wipe off any excess stain that did not penetrate. Make sure to saturate any oily rags in water and lay flat to dry.

The parts that get direct sun having some graying and some boards look to have slight bowing. Would like stain to last more than 2 years since a big job to do whole house and deck. Use the TWP 1500 Series. In most cases you will get 3-6 years on vertical siding depending on the UV exposure and the color your choose. Prep all wood first with the Gemini Restoration Kit.

You can use TWP on all types of exterior wood as long as it is unfinished and prepped well. Just one coat for new wood.

Question – does TWP 15OO contain a bug control additive , if not can one be added ? What is the oil used in the TWP 1500 ? Can the TWP 1500 be sprayed on and then back brushed ? Thanks
You can add the product we sell on this site called Bug Juice:

Blend on natural and synthetic oils. It can be sprayed and back brushed.

Since it it Kiln dried you can stain sooner. Wait 3-4 weeks after install, lightly prep with Gemini Kit and stain with 1 coat of the TWP this year. Apply another light coat to the floor if needed next year.

Type of Wood? 1×4 T&G Smooth Cedar
Condition of Wood? Excellent
Has it been stained previously? Clear Thompson Water Sealant – 2 coats.
Wood siding is on the front of the house. Half gets direct sunlight for 4+ hours/day. Cedar is started to get weathered/bleached out. Water still beads up on cedar. I want to get this back to ‘natural’ cedar color. Can I prep this with the Gemini Restore Kit and then use TWP 100 with some type of UV protection, but still get the Cedar color? How will the lighter/weathered/bleached wood going to match the cedar that does not get hit with sun and looks pretty natural now?
If it is still beading then you have the remove the Thompsons fully and that means you need the RAD Stain stripper followed by the wood brightener as the prep. You have to prep all and stain all so it blends. We have samples on our site to test colors.

There is not a “Honey Gold” in the TWP line. There is a Honeytone. You have to clean and remove the gray first before staining.
