Did you remove all of the Cabot? As for the furring, lightly sand or buff prior to applying the 1500 Series.
Used Penofin stain on cedar deck 2 years ago, and it turned out deck black, and still tacky (gross). Do we use cleaner and brightener? If we just want a wet cedar look do we use TWP 100 or 1500?
Use the Restore A Deck Stripper and Brightener to remove the Penofin. Use either series. Honeytone color.
Question: under the best of circumstances (wood quality, prep. application, etc.) how long will TWP 1500 last?
2-3 years for a deck. For horizontal areas such as fences and houses, it can last 4-7 years.
I sanded, whitened, and applied Ready Seal on my deck last month before I learned that Ready Seal doesn’t hold up as well as TWP. My mistake. In two years, when my Ready Seal coating has faded to grey, can I apply a maintenance coat of TWP 1500 on top or do I need to strip the deck first? That was a lot of work. Thanks
You will need to strip but the good news is that Ready seal comes off very easy.
15 year old fence, originally stained with Behr semi-transparent oil based stain and has not been stained since–Pressure treated wood still in great shape. Boards were stained with 2 coats before they were put up on all sides. Has held color quite well on vertical surfaces fading in some areas, Stain is sparse on horizontal ones. Both surfaces have algae growth. Water no longer beads on fence anywhere. Would like to clean and restain with TWP similar color (redwood) since Behr no longer makes the original oil based stain I used. Since it has been so long since the fence was stained and water no longer beads can I just clean (no powerwash) and restain with TWP redwood which is color very similar to the original Behr stain I used or does the old stain have to be stripped and removed?
Has to be stripped and removed with the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper/Brightener kit. Good news is the old Behr oil based stain is easily removed.
I am getting ready to install some rough cut douglas fir. Par will be a fence in weather. Part will be wainscoting a porch, outside but under cover, part will be the porch ceiling and part will be trimming out an interior of a shop. I am looking for suggestions for preserving my wood. Ideally, I’d like the same color for all applications. Please specify whether or not I want an oil or water based product, especially for the wood exposed to weather (the fence.)
Thanks, Mark.
We only sell the TWP in oil based. Look at the TWP 1500 Series for all. It is a semi-transparent stain that soaks into the wood grain.

pressure treated pine?
Lots of sun, Splitting in places, Suspect previous owners stained too early in order to sell–Stain started peeling within months of moving in–underside like new but unstained
Behr Cedartone, I think
Full Sun, humidity in Maryland summers, Snow and ice in winter, some dark areas, railings are splitting
Attempting to get a deck repair company to do this the right way–it is too big a job for me–They have agreed to let me buy the stain, now trying to get the prep right.
For the prep, the Behr needs to be removed 100%. That will require stripping, pressure washing and possibly sanding. After removal, brighten the wood.

TWP is not a latex based stain but oil-based. It is not possible or needed to apply a clear coat over top.
I am restoring a redwood bench for our pier. I have been sanding for two weeks and it is finally ready to go. I have TWP 1500 redwood (wow that’s dark) I am wondering if I can put anything over the TWP to help fill in some surface topography and possible splinters? How many coats am I supposed to put on this bench? This is a very old bench and I have sanded it for 2 weeks and probably could sand for 2 more but tomorrow I stain.
No, it is not possible to top coat TWP. Appy 1-2 coats or as much as the wood allows the stain to absorb. TWP needs to soak into the wood grain 100%
We built our large cedar deck in the spring of 2014 and stained it with Sherwin Williams Deckscape oil based stain. The stain started to peel almost immediately once the rain started. Three years later, the old stain is almost entirely gone and we’d like to start fresh. After we power wash the deck, what product should we use to clean it and can you recommend a color that closest resembles wet cedar? We don’t want it to be orange. Use the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper Kit to remove the remaining SW while pressure washing. Brighten the wood after. Look at the Honeytone color.
