What is the difference between “clear” and “natural” in 1500 series stains?
Clear does not have any pigment or UV protection while the Natural is tinted and does offer UV protection: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-1500-colors-explained/
I was told that the Natural is not readily available. They are suggesting the Cedartone. From the examples I have seen online it is too brown. I feel the Pecan is closer – brighter but still maybe too red. I really had my heart set on Natural. Is it being discontinued shortly?
Natural is not being discontinued and we have plenty in stock for shipment As for colors, see out photo albums for help: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-1500-series-stain-colors-and-photo-albums/

i replaced my deck last year and stained it with preserva wood redwood stain. It did not even last 6 months .I am looking at TWP 1500 redwood to redo the finish. Before I started researching stains I started pressure washing the deck. What is the best way to proceed now.can I continue pressure washing?
You will need to remove the current coating. If the pressure washing does this then you should be good. If not, you may need to use a stripper while doing the washing. Brighten the wood when done.
built a 20×20′ pergola using doug-fir beams and cedar posts last summer. Getting ready to clean/stain it for the first time this spring. Going with restore-a-deck and light pressure wash, and then should i use 1500 on it? Once it’s had time to dry, will the stain cause any residue runoff when it rains? there is a brand new concrete pad underneath the pergola and i dont want any stain residue washing off in the rain over the next few years.
Hello, yes on the prep and the TWP 1500 Stain for this. TWP is a full curing stain so once cured/dry, it will not have any runoff onto the concrete.
My deck is about 25 years old I’ve used only Flood CWF cedar tone semi transparent. I have read that two 1500 has a great rating. Can I put this on my deck now. It’s been cleaned with a deck cleaner and it really needs to be sealed.
Hello, The Flood has to be fully removed to be able to use the TWP. If your the prep has removed it, then you are good to go. If not, you will need to strip and brighten the wood for prep.
With the honey tone and new redwood I used about 4 gallons of the 5 gallon container I purchased for this time around should I purchase a 5 gallon and an additional 1 gallon just to make sure I have enough if it will penetrate more?
It should be enough and yes it is more absorbent.
Live coastal California. Have 2 year old redwood deck (1200 sqft)
Clean and stained it (very light application) with 1500 honeytone when new. Time for a redwood stain this time around. How should I prepare the deck before staining? Do I have to strip it? Or just clean it?
Best to use this kit when changing colors. Very easy to do:

1200 sq ft new cedar deck that has been weathering since last October. I plan on staining in May. Do I need to do 2 coats or is one sufficient. Can I use my airless sprayer to apply it?
Just one coat. Best to apply by hand. You can spray but you will need to back brush to ensure it applies evenly and penetrates correctly. See here for tips on new wood:
https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Thanks for the reply. How much do I need to order for 1200 sq ft?
For the one coat, about 7-9 gallons.
3 years
Rough sawn oak
Solid as a rock
Deck was coated with Thompson’s 3 years ago, porch, so far nothing
Oak has greyed which I wish to keep. The deck has a partial roof, oak posts, about 225 sq ft, the front porch has a roof, oak posts, 288 sq ft. Need a clear product.
Look at the TWP 1500 in Clear.
I have lots of left over stain and I’d like to know if I can use that stain and apply it to my unfinished hickory hardwood floor inside my house and apply a finish polyurethane coat on top
Sorry but no it will not work for this.
Can I apply the 1500 over the previous 500 used years ago on my California redwood deck.
Thanks
Jeff
Yes, but you will need to prep first. Use this:

I have 3 cedar veneer sectional overhead doors which are 10 years old in very good condition. They were sealed with an alkyd clear preservative, Sikkens Cetol, satin finish. One additional coat of the same sealer was applied 5 years ago. The doors are in need to refinishing again. There is some mildew on the lower section of the doors. We are located in Schenectady, NY. Which product do you recommend?
TWP cannot be applied over the Sikkens. This would have to be removed fully first by sanding. Once removed, you would use the TWP 1500 Series for NY.
Hi, I applied 1501 on my deck a few years ago. Is it better to stick with the 1500 series and put 1501 over the 1501 or is it better to apply the longer lasting oil based 100 series.
Stay with the TWP 1500 after prep with the Gemini Restore Kit. The 100 Series is not longer lasting. Both the 100 and the 1500 last about the same.

No, you cannot stain new wood right away. See this article:

Although the stain applies well and looks good it is not dark enough and certainly not dark walnut. I am wondering if I can use TWP over this to get a darker look. All wood was standard pressure treated lumber from Home Depot and varied in age from 10 years, 5 years and new this. None of the 3 structures were ever stained or treated at all prior to applying Rrady Seal Stain
You cannot apply TWP over a stain of a different brand. You would need to remove the Ready Seal fully first with the Restore A Deck Stripper Kit.
Hello,
I would like to apply TWP 1500 in a clear coat over my douglas fir deck boards and railings. I previously installed the deck and had applied Thompsons water seal. Can I place TWP1500 directly over the Thompsons or do I have to remove the Thompsons first? If I have to remove it what should I use to remove it and prep the deck?
Is TWP 1500 the right stain/sealer and is the natural a clear so natural lumber color will not be affected?
Thank you Derrick
Natural color is tinted. The Clear is not. Clear also means you will not have UV protection from graying. The Natural being tinted and all the other TWP colors will offer UV protection. You will need to remove the Thompsons first:

Yes, the 1500 Series is correct for this. It would be best to stain this year. You have until mid-October. Prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit.

Old dry redwood, sanded down to fresh wood.
They will last about the same. The 1500 has slightly higher solids so it could give a little longer UV protection when in full sun.

I want to use the TWP redwood stain, but do not want to remove the existing stain, because it is less work and I want the brown color under the redwood. Can I pressure wash and apply TWP?
Unfortunately, you cannot apply the TWP over a different brand of stain. You will need to use the Restore A Deck Stripper first.

Over applied. Ash is a hardwood. TWP is not suggested for this wood type and if used only 1 coat should have been applied because of the woods density.

You could strip and pressure wash to remove. Not sure if you will need the media blasting with the Walnut Shells. Once removed, brighten all the wood.
As for the deck, the old coating needs to come off as well. You will need a stain stripper or sanding to remove. Brighten after.

Hello, there is not a product designed to just clean dirt and not remove any of the stain. Try warm water and some dish soap to see if that does the trick. Being too “aggressive” with the cleaner could result in some of the stain lifting as well.
