Edy, the 1500 Series is the improved version of the 500 Series. I would use this in the same color that you used in the 500 Series. Prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit and a light pressure washing.

Paula, if the wood is free of old coatings then use the Gemini Restore Kit to prep the wood with a light pressure washing. Stain with the TWP 1500 Series.

I see that the 1500 covers approximately 150-200 sq ft. Is this for one coat or two? Also, what type of brush do you recommend? My deck is about 10X12 with railings.

Thanks

My project is a maintence application to cedar batten board. Wood is in good condition, some discoloration. Treated with TWP500 when built 5 years ago. This is the 2nd story exterior of our home with virtually no shade in South Alabama. Please advise on best product of continued protection.

Our deck is 26 yrs old and not in the best of shape. We don’t want to replace yet. What would you suggest to get us thru a couple more years? Thank you for your help.

Craig, you should be okay to stain now. Best to not have rain for 12 hours after the staining to be on the safe side. It may be okay if it takes rain sooner but it could be risky.

BBJ, if it looks fine and it dries okay then there should be nothing to worry about.

I am going to brush TWP 101 Cedartone on a cedar deck. The deck has been scrubbed with Simple Green and rinsed off with a sponge and clean water, then a heavy rain (no powerwash). It will have been 36 hours since the rain. Is that enough drying time? After brushing on the TWP, how long does it need to dry before being rained on? Thank you.

Hello,
I am staining a deck in Ohio with the cedar-tone 1500. Everything was going fine, but an unforcasted thunderstorm popped up about 2hrs after applying the product to a small portion of the deck and stairs.
What, if anything will I need to do to the effected area? It still looks fine, but I am worried that it may create a problem down the road.

We had inexperienced flooring company sand and stain our cedar decking with TWP 1500. They put 1 coat on one day and stopped due to weather. Cam back 2 days later and applied 2 coats wet on wet. It has been 3 days, and it is still sticky in some areas, so we have stayed off of it. Will it eventually dry out on it’s own?

Sandra, prep with the Gemini Restore kit if there is not an old stain. Once prepped, let the wood dry for a couple of days. Apply two coats of the TWP 1500.

Mollie, yes you should clean first and you can spray the TWP but you will need to back brush for uniformity.

Pressure-treated board (pine?) (four board) fence with pressure treated 4×4 posts was installed one year ago, still retaining most of its original tan color. No stain yet. Do I really have to clean it before staining? Does your TWP 1500 apply well with a sprayer? (I would back brush.)

MikeM,after the proper prepping I would suggest the TWP 1503 Dark Oak. Make sure you remove the old stain first by stripping or sanding.

I need to stain a deck that has not been done in at least 5 years. A small portion of the deck and railing is exposed to the elements but 85% of it is undercover. Current color is brown-ish…don’t know the brand. Possibly cedar probably pine. Maybe 10 years old. Not sure.

What product and procedure do you recommend? I planned on sticking with a dark color.
Thanks

I have a new pine deck about 265 sq. ft. If I order 5 gallons and use 1/2 now and 2nd coat next year, will the stain keep well? Any problems with storing for that length of time?

David, clear will not give you UV protections. You must use a tint. This will enhance the wood grain of table.

I am building an outdoor table out of new red cedar. It looks as though TWP may be a good option to seal it up.

I want to keep the color exactly as it is now: light reddish. If I have to deviate from that I would like something just a little more red.

Do you have a color you would recommend?
Or:
Is there someplace I could look at actual color chips, or perhaps a web page with larger & better quality pictures? I cannot tell much from the little pictures you have on your web site.

Thanks

Renee,
Thought I’d chime in because your note was very similar to my experience. I tested RB on pressure treated and also felt it was too Red, but Dark Oak was just too dark for me. I then tested a mixture of 3 parts RB and one part Dark Oak and I really like the color. Ultimately that is what I am going to go with once I can find a break in the rainy weather to apply it. You can mix colors of the 1500 series, I’ve seen others ask the same question on here. But I wouldn’t apply one over the other, simply get a big bucket and mix them together and stir it up real good before applying.

Try testing different combos like 2 parts RB to 1 part Dark Oak. Sincd you dont have lot of sample supply, all you need is a small measuring medicine cup that measure in ML or a tablespoon. Simply mix 2 or 3 tablespoons of RB with 1 tablespoon of dark oak and test that with 2 coats.

Good luck.

I have a 750 sf pine deck I just stripped and cleaned with your Gemini products. (Very effective products, by the way) After sampling your 1516 Rustic Brown and 1503 Dark Oak, I’m wishing you offered a color a little less red than the RB, yet a little redder than the DO to better blend with the color of my log siding. The perfect color actually came up when I applied the Rustic Brown first, then applied the Dark Oak over that. Do you mix colors by chance, or have any recommendations for achieving that effect?

Prep the wood with the Gemini Restore Kit and a light pressure washing to restore the wood and remove the graying. Look at the TWP 1500 Series for the stain.

what would you recommend for me. I have a new pressure treated deck with ceder floor. Just installed last week. Should I seal/stain it right away and if so what product do you recommend? I’d like a transparent finish. The deck is in direct sunlight all morning.

I have a 50 year old post and beam cottage in the Berkshires – western Massachusetts. All western red cedar with a four foot overhang consisting of beams, tongue and groove and fascia. Wood is grey with some minor pitting. I want to bring back to new look. Suggestions please!

MayLouL, hard to say. It it does not dry properly then you will need to strip and and start over or possibly lightly recoat. If it does not look affected then leave it alone.
