To make sure that it matches, it would be best to remove the cedartone and start over. Use the Restore A Deck Stripper kit for this.

What steps do I need to take and do I use the 100 or 1500? Will I need to do one coat or two? I live in Kentucky with cold winters and hot humid summers.
You will need to remove the Olympic before using the TWP. Stripping and possibly sanding will bee needed. Brighten the wood after removal. apply two coats of the TWP 100 Series.

I have just completed cleaning, stripping, brightening and staining a 1000 square foot, 25 year old deck (last stained 6 years ago and in deteriorated condition) made of pressure treated pine. The stain used was TWP 100 Clear. The wood looks great with the grain clearly showing. However the color is now a darkish brown. I am adding a set of steps of Cox pressure treated kiln dried pine which is a very blond (new wood) color. I plan to stain the stairs in a month. What stain and color would you advise to most closely match the existing deck color? Thanks for any advise you can provide.
I am confused to your question? There is no color in the clear nor is their UV protection. Might be best to get some samples to test for this. We have them on our site.

Live in Ohio. I am building a deck of kiln dried cherry. I’d like a penetrating oil stain, best possible. Very much prefer clear as most stains obscure rather than enhance grain. What do you recommend?

You can use a sprayer, but you should still apply the TWP at the correct rate per gallon. You may waste some stain when spraying.
Hi,

I live in Southern California and need to refinish the siding on my SMOOTH, clear, cedar sided home. Previously treatments were apparently a traditional linseed oil/turpentine mix. I’d like to use a product that produces the most natural, non-obscuring finish possible. Generally I’m not a huge fan of the semi-transparent look – it’s always somewhat plasticky. What would you recommend? Thanks so much.
The lightest tint in the TWP 1500 Series is the Honeytone. Make sure to prep by cleaning and removing the old coatings.
I am finishing a cedar deck. I have already washed it with a cleaner and then oxalic acid and there are still stains on it. I am planning on sanding it to get it back to original (which I did last year) Last year I applied a Sherwin Williams product on it and it failed miserably. I am assuming I will not need any of the prep products but which series should I get for the longest results. I would prefer to NOT have to do this every year. I love the idea of clear to keep the natural color of the cedar but am assuming that is not an option. HELP!!
Clear will not provide UV protection. The darker the tint, the longer the UV protection. Look at either the 100 or 1500 based on your state laws.
My deck is well weathered CCA pine, 15 years old. The contractor proposes to use TWP 200, which apparently is his standard for deck refinishing to give a two year warranty. I read here that TWP 200 is intended for shake/shingle roofs. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Guy
Yes the TWP 200 is intended for shakes and shingles. It has a high amount of paraffin oil. It can be used on decking with very good results. The negative is that it goes on very dark and can take 2 weeks to reach final color and to even dry fully. For this reason alone, we suggest the TWP 100 or 1500 that has a normal dry and cure of 4-24 hours.

Storm Shield is discontinued. Use the 100 series. Make sure to prep by removing the Olympic first. Try the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper and pressure washing to remove.

Yes you will need the 1500 for RI. If the wood is rough cut, then you can stain right away with no cleaning. Make sure wood is dry. If smooth, wait 4 months and prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit. 15-20 gallons for 2000 sq. feet and two coats of the TWP

Hi, I have just installed a 6 x160 ft cedar fence. I live in Rhode Island. About how long should I wait before staining? Since its a new fence, do I need to clean it? I want to stain both sides, about how much will I need and how many coats? I guess I have to use 1500 because I am in Rhode Island? Thank you!

Both the 100 and 1500 are semi-transparent and are not any different in opacity. Since it is older wood, it would be best to apply with 2 coats “wet on wet”.
