Albert, TWP 100 for Denver.
Denver area with west and south sun on a redwood deck. Recommend TWP100 or 1500?
Ben, Yes the 100 Series.
And is the 100 series product the correct choice for may particular project described below, vs the 1500 series? thanks
The TWP 101 is called Cedartone Natural. You would want this.
Hi,
I want to double check I am ordering the right product for a cedar deck in Seattle, on a small lake, western exposure. I am planning on ordering the TWP 100 product instead of the 1500 product. 101 to be presice. I believe 101 used to be Cedartone but is now named Natural. Can you confirm that the 100 product is the correct product for my environment? thanks
Naomi, TWP is not suggested for exotic hardwoods such as yours.
Our deck is a Brazilian mahogany.
We are going to have it stripped. Can I use your 1500 product on it?
Dan, TWP is not designed to be used on exotic hardwoods such as Tigerwood.
I have a 256 sq ft of tigerwood on our covered entry. Which product and color do you recommend?
Yes you can use any of the TWP Stains for log homes.
Is TWP 1500 used on the logs on a log home? You don’t specify any where in your description.
Edward, we could not find any order from you.
I need to place an order. My previous order was about 12-18 mos ago. I am not sure if my initial order was the 1500 series (cedartone). Please verify via e-mail the series. Thank you.
Shirley,
1. Apply a very light coat if needed in Spring.
2. Do not use Clear. Use Natural again.
3. Clear gives not UV protection from graying. You must have a tint for this. Us the 1500 Series.
4. If the shingles are rough then you can stain right away.
I used a product to seal bamboo fencing at the recommendation of Cali Bamboo. The product I used was Total Wood Protection Lite Cedar TWP-315. It appears that this product is no longer available. Can you tell me what product replaces this product?
Location of deck is northern Ohio. In late May 2013,, after stripping and brightening, we applied ‘Natura’l 1500 series and it appeared to penetrate well. The deck is over 15 years old in some areas, but it looks beautiful, now.
1. Should we apply a second coat prior to winter? A few small areas where the stain had two coats looked shiny.
2. We don’t want the color of the deck any darker…if we apply a second coat should we use clear?
3. We are putting shake shingles on the house. Should we also use the 1500 or 200 series and should we use clear…we want them to remain natural in color.
4. When should we put stain on new shingles?
Do you have dealers in Minnesota?
Eric, for NE you would want the 100 Series. Please read this article:
http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Wes, TWP is the only stain on the market that is registered as a wood preservative by the EPA. It contains a EPA registered algaecide. I would use the 100 Series for MN.
Good Day, product specs look great as do the reviews, just not sure what the big difference between the 100 and 1500. i have a hi-wood quality cedar new deck in NE…whats the recommended one please?
If so, which stain is best for a Minnesota deck receiving limited sun?
We live in Minnesota and our large cedar deck receives some but very limited sun. It is bordered by dense woods. I have had difficulty with even the most highly rated stains lasting more than 2-3 months before mold and mildew takes over. Is there any chance that TWP will be different. Please be honest!!!
It should be fine if it was at least 12 hours after application.
What happens if it rains during the 48 hours after application?
Laura, we are an online retailer for TWP. We personally do not have any dealers there.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Are there any stores in Kansas that sell TWP products?
Scott801, what is the total sq. footage with the floors, steps and railings? Probably one 5 gallon pail.
I need some help estimating coverage. I have a 8-year old deck, in full southern exposure, in Mid Wisconsin, pressure treated pine. I have stripped off the old stain and ready to upgrade to TWP. It is about 300 sq ft, with another 50 sq feet of stairs, plus railing. Any thoughts on how much I need?
we do not but we can ship to you.
Do you have any twp dealers in Bozeman Montana?
If not, can it be shipped to Montana? We have lots of wet snow here, and my deck needs refinishing.
Kim, clean and brighten the wood with the Gemini Restore Kit for the prep. Stain both deck and fence with the 100 Series.
ksprangers, you can apply now after prepping the wood correctly. No need to shake, just stir for a few minutes.
Mark H, where are you located? Please read this about new decks:
http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Hi — I have a back deck, NW side of house, with 132sf exposed and 182sf screened/under roof. Gets almost zero winter sun, prone to mildew staining. Summer it gets late morning through evening NC sun and humidity. I do not believe they were previously treated, although could have had a translucent stain applied; built 2009.
Do I use 100 or 1500? What do I use to clean since unsure about prior finish?
I’m having a new wood fence installed this week and will want to treat when it has dried; treated lumber, pine I believe, about 726sf, back yard also.
Would I use 100 or 1500 on that since is new?
Again, that’s NC heat and humidity.
Thanks!
Kim
I have a pressure treated pine pergola, that we built last October. We’re located in southeastern WI. I’ve ordered and received 2 gallons of 100. Some questions.
A) Should I let the wood weather longer before staining?
B) When would be best to apply the stain?
C) Is there any danger in letting the stain sit in the cans until the proper time?
D) Can the stain be shaken at the hardware store for mixing?
Thanks.
I will be building a new elevated deck soon. It will be elevated. I will use pressure treated wood, species is still TBD. I’m not sure I understand the difference between the 100 and 1500. The 1500 is labeled as “best.” I’m not sure what that means. Can you help me decide?
Rj, yes as it neutralizes the cleaner. Your stain will perform better.
rj, you are correct on the steps for the prep. Stain with the 100 as it penetrates a little better and will have a less chance of wearing from the dog.
Thank you…one last question. Do I need to do the brightener step if I’m going for a very dark stain such as TWP 103 Dark Oak?
TWP 1500 Series for VA.
8. Year old. Deck….pressure washed and repaired…morning sun…VA..best choice
rj, you are correct on the steps for the prep. Stain with the 100 as it penetrates a little better and will have a less chance of wearing from the dog.
John, clean and brighten with the Restore A Deck kit then stain with the 100 Series.
I have a new deck with pressure treated pine (installed last fall) that I need to stain/seal soon.
The deck gets full sun and is covered with snow for several months a year (northern Michigan).
I want to use the cedartone semi transparent but don’t know which product to choose the 100 or the 1500.
I’ve done so much research and everything leads me to TWP.
-Portland, Oregon
-Fantastic sunny summers, very wet winters
-Cedar deck I believe
-west facing deck, no shade
-dog traffic courtesy of the semi-famous “Sky the Dog” (twitter: Sky_The_Dog)
Nothing has been done to the deck since we moved in 4 years ago. Much of the old semi-transparent stain is gone on the horizontal while much still remains on the vertical. Some rough areas of wood like splintering and such.
I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong, the proper procedure should be:
Strip, sand, lightly pressure wash, brighten, stain then apply 2nd coat right away (wet on wet). Is that correct?
and now the big ?….100 or 1500 given my situation/conditions? Thank you so much for putting out a great product!
BJ, 1500 Series.
I have a new pressure treated deck less than 2 months old in Atlanta GA. It gets very little shade only in late afternoon. Which would be better TWP200 or TWP1500.
Strip with the Restore A Deck Stripper then Brighten as well. We are an online retailer.
I have a pressure treated deck whic was treated with Sikkens. I want to switch as I’m not happy with the results. Should I strip the weathered stain and if so what would you recommend?
Where can TWP products be purchased?
Clear will not prevent graying. Best to use the 1500 series. The Honeytone is the lightest color.
