TWP 1500 Series 5 Gallons Deck Stain
I have a 500 sq foot untreated deck. Around five years old. Do I need to apply one or two coats of TWP 1500 (rustic) and how much do I need (will 5 gallons cover 2 coats)? Thanks in advance.
Good Afternoon,
Do you ship the 5 gallon pail of TWP 1500 series to Ontario, Canada?
Sorry but TWP is not legal for Canada.
Good Afternoon,
Do you ship the 5 gallon pail of TWP 1500 series to Ontario, Canada?
Opened pails of TWP will not last a few seasons.
Since my new deck will only need one coat initially, should I go ahead and buy individual 1 gallons or will the 5 gallon last a few seasons once opened?
Heath, similar but not same. This article explains colors better: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-1500-colors-explained/
Best to use the Gemini Restore Kit for prep.
Is the cedartone and pecan close to the same color. I am staining cypress borad and bat. Can I clean with oxygen bleach
Please read this about colors:

Coats are the same. No UV protection at all in the Clear which means it grays in a few months.
I would like to know the difference between the Natural 1530 and Clear 1500 (No UV Protection); Color, Protection, Durability, Number of coats needed and finally how does it affect if the Clear does not have UV Protection.
I really appreciate your feedback.
Hi i wanted to know how often do you have to apply the twp 1500?
That varies depending on the wood type, age of the wood, vertical or horizontal wood, and weather exposure. Hard to answer without knowing your scenario.

Is it possible to get samples of a few different colors?
We like stain pad applicators like these:
http://www.twpstain.com/brushes-stain-pads
What should I use to apply the stain? A certain king of brush or roller? I am not a professional painter and will be doing this myself.
My zip is 60480 where can I buy TWP 1516?
Usually a day or so is fine.
I stained my cedar deck with TWP1500. How long do I have to wait before I can walk on the deck?
brian1111, paint thinner will work.
What do I use to clean TWP 1500 stain off of brushes?
EG, yes. If you do not the TWP may not properly adhere or penetrate into the wood grain. Using the Clear will not make a difference. Improper prep is the number one reason that stain will prematurely fail.
I have a cedar sided house, I have no idea what stain was used before. I really like the color of it now and don’t want it to change, but the wood is dry. It looks like it needs to soak up some protection and I want to use TWP 1500. It appears to me that I could simply apply the new stain on the siding, I really don’t want to go through the effort to strip the entire house (it’s 3 stories high on the downhill side) and I don’t want to change the nice rustic color it has now. If I apply the cedartone 1501 over the existing, will it really look bad??? If I’m too lazy to strip and brighten the entire house, should I just use clear TWP stain instead? It’s nestled in the woods, not much direct sunlight. No mold/mildew/fungus issues at all. Is doing nothing better than something in this case?
Linda, you can apply the TWP with airless sprayers.
Can all of your waterproffing products be used with a airless paint sprayer? Thank you.
Rich, we are an online dealer and shipping takes 2-3 days to Atlanta.
I live in the Atlanta, Ga area. Can your TWP 1500 series product be purchased locally? If not, what is the shipping time once I place an order?
Matt, I would wait until Spring. Please read this: http://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
I live in Northern NJ and I am installing 3 levels of new PT decking on my home. The decking has been sitting for about 1 month already uninstalled. I expect to be completed with the installation within the next 2 weeks. My first question is: How long should I wait to treat my new decks with the TWP 1500? I read that I should wait 3 to 12 months, 3 months will be out of the question since the temperature will drop below 50 degrees. so the second part of my question is: will waiting until next spring cause adverse effects that cant be repaired due to extreme weather?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Matt
THX should I wait to stain deck
Patrick, TWP cannot be used or sold into Canada. Sorry about that.
Hi With a contractor Iam building a 700 + sq ft deck in the front and a 200 sq ft deck in the back of my home.Made of Western Red Cedar.
The contractor wants to stain the deck flooring on all four sides before building the deck.
Should I wait until next year to stain the deck floor, stairs and rails.
I was wanting to use the TWP 1500 SERIES
.My home is a ranch style bungalow with white siding and a black ashphat roof.
Should i use the 1501,1502,1503 or 1504 stain next year.
I live in northern Alberta,canada.Latatude 55 deg.
Thx Patrick Walker
lomalinda, sounds like it. TWP should not be shiny. If it is than it did not penetrate. I would wipe down the deck with mineral spirits and rags to remove some of the excess and let it dry for a few more days. Make sure to wet rags down with water to avoid spontaneous combustion. It will be fine once it dries and is not sticky.
TWP 1500; New Jersey – My husband stained our deck 15 year old deck yesterday. It has never been treated before. It was powerwashed a few weeks ago and then we had rain, so we waited for several dry days to stain. He did 2 coats – within about 20 minutes of each other, using a roller. This morning we have a few boards that still look wet – shiny. Did we use too much product? Our thoughts, it either it will eventually soak in or we should wipe with a cloth. Do you have a recommendation? What impact will too much product (if that is the reason) have on the useability of the deck and effectiveness of the treatment?
GB, either color would work. Best to get some samples to test first from our site.
I have a cedar deck, 568 sq. ft. Would it be recommended to use the cedartone or natural? Are there any pictures of a cedar deck using each?
Jerry, I would apply the 100 Series. If you do it prematurely than it will most likely fail earlier requiring it to be redone next year.
Dale Derome, Please read this:

I recently completed two redwood decks. I live in WY where we get lots of snow in Winter. Should I use TWP 100 or 1500? If I wait the recommended minimum 4-months before staining, the weather will be COLD here. Should I wait as long as possible and apply just one coat now, then a second one next summer? OR? Thank you.
How long should I wait before staining a new pressure treated pine deck?
Ann, please read this article for help with the 1500 colors:
http://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-1500-colors-explained/
We have 7 year old decking around 3 sides of our house that we have just finished cleaning. Most of it is stained a beautiful warm light brown that lets most of the wood grain show thru, the rest has never been stained or was clear.
We will be staining the whole deck area, which color would you recommend to try and keep everything the same warm light brown color (multiple type woods used some had stain some did not). I didn’t know if I should go w/the cedar tone (instead of the honey) because it is a little darker and might help everything match.
Thank-you
Ric Popp,
The main thing you did wrong is you sanded with to fine of a grit of paper. Out side wood is not supposed to be smooth like an interior floor. No higher the 60 grit is what we suggest. You may run the risk of the TWP not penetrating correctly now. This would create a fill on the surface that may wear or peel. Another concern is that new wood should weather for 4+ months, then prepped by cleaning and brightening before applying the stain. At this point I would let is “weather” for a couple of months then prep with the Gemini Restore Kit and a light pressure wash in the Fall before applying the stain.
lomalinda, you should always use a deck cleaner and wood brightener when pressure washing. This will help with the overall final appearance and prevent damage to the wood when washing with water alone. TWP 1500 for this deck.
I want u to grade my prep work please. My deck is 90% cedar(old) 10% Douglas fir(new). The cedar has been sanded with 80/100/120 grit, using an orbital sander. Douglas fir not sanded. Both the cedar and Douglas fir stripped and then brightener applied. Both were thoroughly rinsed with water hose during and after each process.
I’m deathly afraid upon application of TWP 1500 stain that the deck will turn out like the last application of stain ,which was Sikkens. The Sikkens Honey Tone flaked and peeled w/in 6 months. I don’t want this to happen again! I’ve been advised buy a paint employee at Lowe’s not to pressure wash the deck now, prior to staining.
Have I done a correct prep job, should I pressure wash prior to staining?
I want this deck to look as good as possible in order to sell my home next spring. I’d appreciate any all feed-back on my situation.
Thank you, Ric Popp
My husband is currently power washing our 12 year old pt wood deck. He asked me to research best stain. Wow. I think I should have offered to do the power washing! 😉
The deck has never had any type of coating/preservative/stain whatever; in NJ; sometimes snow sits for months in the shady parts. Would like to use the TWP 1500. Good choice or is there better suggestion? Since he is power washing with just water do we need to use something before applying the stain? Any other comments/suggestions/advice obviously welcome. Thank you!
John, use the 1500 or 100 Series for OR. Please read this on wet on wet:
http://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-stain-wet-on-wet-application/
ON APPLICATION WHAT DOES WET ON WET MEAN.
LIVE IN OREGON WINTERS ARE VERY WET WHICH CAUSES MOSS AND MILDEW.HAVE WEATHER WORN TEN YEAR OLD CEDER DECK ( ABOUT 1,000 SQ FT ) GRAY WITH HARD GRAIN SHOWING. CAN YOU RECOMMEND A STAIN OR ?
Laurie, yes you need to prep with a cleaner and wood brightener first. You can use the TWP 1500 Series for this. We are located in Rochester Hills, MI.
I have 2 Large Pergola’s built out of treated lumber, they were built in Aug. 2012 and have not had any product on them at this time. I was wondering if you would recommend TWP 1500, do I have to clean it in any way before staining, it is going to be very difficult to do as it is high with several angles. Was thinking of using a stain mitten, or any suggestion you may have. I live in Michigan, is there stores here that sell this product or do I have to order it, hoping to do this ASAP.
Thank You, Sue
fonzetf, You can do both this Fall. Make sure to prep first with the Gemini Restore Kit.
