TWP 200 Series is now available to be shipped to Canada!
The TWP 200 Series was designed for shakes and shingles but can be used for all exterior wood surfaces such as fencing, log homes, cedar framed homes, etc.
TWP 200 Series is a semi-transparent oil based penetrating finish designed to extend the life of exterior wood such as cedar shake siding, and shingles. Containing a paraffin oil, TWP 200 series penetrates wood extremely well. The Paraffin oil is a “non-drying” oil that enhances the wood cells structural stability. This greatly improves the woods life and appearance.
TWP 200 Series primary function is to enhance the structural integrity and appearance of aged roofing. The finish composition will minimize grain cracking, cupping, surface erosion, water absorption and surface attack from mildew and algae. Although the system is highly penetrative, the residual surface film is highly resistant to destructive organisms. The penetrative portion of the product absorbs into aged and porous wood, adding bulk to aged and brittle wood fiber. This restores lubricity and flexibility to brittle shingles. At 94%+ solids, these products comply with all current federal and state VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulations.
TWP 200 SERIES will not crack, peel or blister making maintenance an easy task to perform for extended wood protection.
- Compliant in all States
- Sheds and Repels Water
- Prolongs UV Fading
- 8 Colors. Can take up to 30 days to cure to final color.
Material Preparation:
Due to different substrates, wood density, sanding, wiping and application methods, and atmospheric conditions, ALWAYS check actual stain color for accuracy before finish work process begins. We are not responsible for color variances following application of the product.
**TWP® 200 Clear allows wood to gray naturally
My questions are for using TWP 200 Series;
After cleaning my logs I know they will be dry and porous, do I need to use an application prior to staining to prevent blotching? Also,
I’ll only be able to do a portion of the home but know I need 2- 5 gal pails, should they be bought at one time to maintain color/production run or doesn’t it matter.
Thank you,
Joe
No, do not apply anything before staining. By at the same time.
What is going to provide the best UV protection – cedartone, cedar gold or california?
Also, what is the approx shipping time to BC Canada?
All the same. About 1-2 weeks.
Also, how much would I need for an 80 foot board on board fence, 6 feet tall?
For a total of 1000 sq feet, you would need about 7-10 gallons.
Is it possible to get samples of the TWP 200 Series colours? I followed a link to the sample site but there was none of the 200 series.
There are 200 samples on this link: https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
I applied TWP 203 to my back deck over 4 weeks ago. My parents came to visit and the rubber foot of my father’s cane marked all over the surface of the deck. I took some soap and water to it, which partially removed the black marks but also lightened a patch of my stain! Now I’m left with a mess on my nice newly stained deck. What’s the best way to proceed to fix this? More soap and water and scrub to remove the black marks, then a light reapplication of stain over the top? I really hope I don’t need to sand the single board down and re-do the whole thing. Help!
Do a light pressure wash with a cleaner to all wood and then a very light coat.
You’re not suggesting that I pressure wash the whole board back to bare wood are you? Just the problem area?
The whole board otherwise it will not blend when you recoat.
I received 2 samples 201 and 205. They are showing up much darker than what is portrayed in the pictures. Is even darker than the 207 Butternut Brown. I’m wondering what would cause this.
Shingles have just been pressure washed and cleaned. *** I will post pictures tomorrow.
The 200 Series takes about 1-2 weeks until full cure and final color.
I put the samples on a number of different types of wood to get an idea of what to expect. Understandably, the colors will vary depending on the wood. However, I did not expect it to be so dark when applied to the shingles as it doesn’t reflect the color swatches at all. What should be my next steps?
As we mentioned 200 Series takes about 1-2 weeks until full cure and final color. Shingles are also much more absorbent in color.
Does that mean it will lighten a bit to be more like the top samples? Or should I order something lighter like TWP203?
I will lighten up on your wood but colors will always vary based on wood type, age, and, the porosity of the wood.
Ok… thanks… ordered 10 gallons. Is Mineral Spirits the best for clean up? Any other application/clean up suggestions?
Mineral spirits is correct for cleanup.
I’m having all of my deck and rail wood replaced, but keeping the old lattice skirt. A stain was put on the lattice around 11-12 year ago. Not sure if it was oil or water. Does the lattice need be stripped before staining since it was so long ago? I can still see some stain on it.
Yes.
Can TPW 100 be used on new KDAT wood that ages for several months, and passes the water absorption test?
As long as you prep wit this kit: https://www.twpstain.com/gemini-s-restore-a-deck-cleaner-and-brightener-kit
Thank you for replying so quickly. If the person I’m using to stain the deck has their own cleaner and brighter, can they use that?
They refurbish a lot of older decks with TPW 200.
As long as they prep well.
I applied my TWP 203 on Sunday (3 days ago). It was on a PT deck that had weathered for 2 years, then prepped with Restore-A-Deck Cleaner & Brightener. There are a few individual boards that have a slightly deeper color and a very slight sheen when you look across them. When you touch them there’s a very slight amount of residue on the surface. Should I wait another day or two, or should I wipe down the residue? There’s a different feeling between the boards that are clearly “dried” and those that have a slightly moist feeling yet. Give it more time? There is sun in the forecast for the next 2 days, then a stretch of rain.
Wipe it down now. Make sure to saturate all oily rags in water and lay flat to dry outside.
What can I do to get rid of the “film” that still remains on the wood after I’ve wiped it down? I applied a thin coat, let it dry/cure thoroughly. Wiped it down after drying like you suggested (twice, actually) and bare/sock feet still transfer oil to my tile floor inside. What’s the best way to fix this?
It will cure, just may take a few days to do this.
I noticed when placing my order that the stain colour changed.
I ordered the TWP 201 cedar tone not the 203 cedar tone gold
can you please change this on my order # JGBP088082
also I had a different shipping address and it reverted to my home address.
Hello, We canceled your order and refunded it so you can now go ahead and reorder the color you want. Please double-check the color prior to paying in the cart. It is not possible for the system to change the color after you choose which one you want and add it to the cart.
Correction, we used TWP 201 the cedar tone not the clear.
Two questions.
I stained an older cedar deck which was sanded with Twp 200 2 years ago with one coat. I am looking to use the same stain this year on the deck. What sort of prep is needed?
Also, are you shipping to Canada currently?
Prep with this kit: https://www.twpstain.com/gemini-s-restore-a-deck-cleaner-and-brightener-kit
We are shipping.
My deck is prep ready..I want to change color….can your solid stain/ sealer cover the existing color?
Send a picture.
I purchased 8-10 pails of the TWP201 Cedartone 2 years ago to coat my cedar house and fences. The cedar is about 10 years old, was treated with Penofin Blue Label. I stripped and brightened the surfaces as directed. The TWP soaked in well but seems darker than the color represented in the example picture and has dried with a greenish tint to it. Recently, I used some stain that has sat in the bottom of a pail for a year and a half and put it on the back of my fence. It was thicker than when new… looks great, no green tint! Is there a chance that not enough tinting pigment was added to the stain I purchased? What do I do to get rid of the green tint on my cedar? Also, I have been emptying and mixing all of the pails together for consistency and removing the tinting pigment from the bottom of pail where it gets trapped in the seam.
No, that is not possible to have a pail that did not have enough tint. The batches are 1200 gallons and all are quality controlled to exact color prior to pouring and are continually mixed through the entire process. There is nothing green in the TWP stain. If you have a greenish hue then it is coming from something else like the wood, not the stain.
How much stain is required for a deck that is about 1100 square feet if using TWP 200 stain? And is only 1 coat required?
I ask because I have ordered TWP200 before and over purchased the amount of stain I used on a 900 sq foot deck? I purchased 7 gallons previously and only used about 3 gallons.
About 6-7 gallons.
Is only 1 coat required?
Yes, one coat should be good.
Hi – what colour in the 200 is the closest to cedartone 101 in the 100 series. I’m trying to match items on the deck. Thanks!
They will not match but the closest is probably 203 Cedar Gold.
Hi! We applied 203 to the benches, and it is considerably darker than the 101 cedar tone. Would the 201 be a lighter hue? I’d love to go with the natural but we both dislike the look of greying wood. Will the colour lighten or darken as it cures?
TWP 200 lightens as it cures in 7-14 days. The lightest color is the Cedar Gold.
Do you have any pictures (esp. before and after) of slate gray used on cedar shake siding?
We do not but you can order a sample to test from us.
https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
actually I was thinking the same thing and now you’ve brought me to my follow up question – why are there no samples available for the 200 series?
There are. As the link I sent you mentions, just call for the 200 Series samples.
Our client wants to use TWP 200 on cedar shake shingles. We plan on staining them once before installation now and then another coat after install on site in May. They want the Ben Moore 1547 dark gray color “Dragon’s Breath”. Would it be possible to order your “Slate Gray” color and then have it darkened with pigment locally at a paint store? Or could we order your “Clear” and start from scratch by adding pigment?
Sorry but no, that is not possible. TWP cannot be custom tinted.
On the surface preparation, it says “allow for 4-12 months of natural weathering” is that imperative? what is the benefit for that? If we are in a time constraint, would skipping that step and just doing the bleach/water solution and cleaning prior achieve the same results?
You cannot skip the weathering and prep: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Just wait until Spring.
I left a 5 gallon pail of TWP 200 Series, with about 1 gallon left in it, in an outdoor shed last winter. The lid was on very tightly. Would I still be able to use it, or would the cold weather here in Toronto have ruined it?
It has gone bad most likely.
Is there an easy way to check?
Looks for clumps, thickening of the stain, or skinning.
Thanks!

What is the best stain / sealer for a dock in Vancouver, BC. I understand it can be purchased at Home Depot. What is the best application and how long will it last?

Yes, it is semi-transparent
Our cabin has about 1200 feet of 16 x 48 x 5/16 cedar plywood. I cleaned it using 50/50 water and bleach. It turned out great. My question is 100, 200 or 1500 series. Which is the most bang for the buck? Thanks for you recommendation

Use the TWP 200 or 1500 Series for IL.

I have a rough cedar house in the northwoods of Wisconsin. In the past I used ABR X-100 Cedartone Gold. But I am wanting to transition to your product. What color would be comparable to the Cedartone Gold?
You will need to strip off the ABR fully first before using the TWP. As for color, tey TWP 203 Cedar Gold.

You have to remove the Olympic. How is based on the type of stain it is? Semi-transparent, solid, etc.
You would want the TWP 1500 Series for the stain.
I need to coat a new cedar DECK
I am confused about which series I should use. And the different uses for each. It
It seems like the 200 series has paraffin and would last longer. Is this correct?

Not all shipping companies deliver here. Fedex and UPS do but others do not.
We use UPS for Canada.
I’m using 206 to stain a fence. The Data Sheet says you can use an airless pump sprayer. Does that mean you can also use a manual pump sprayer? If so, are there any special instructions for that application method other than those listed?
You can use a high-quality pump sprayer. Make sure to back wipe all drips and to ensure an even application.
I used a back pack pump sprayer, worked great buy plenty of solvent/diesel.thinner to clean it.Depending how big of a job you might be able to use it again after your job is done, but I doubht it

What is the best TWP product for brand new pressure treated posts—has been curing for 6 months and will be stained this coming April—looking for the darkest color?
Use the TWP 1504 Black Walnut. Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit. Just apply one coat. See this for new wood tips: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
What should I use on my pine trim and log siding.
Use the TWP 200 Series. Lasts about 3-7 years for siding.
How long will the 200 last
I’ve got TWP 201 to specify for a remodeling project in Atlanta. Is there a page with a brochure that details EXACTLY what the subcontractor will need to prep before installation. As well, along with the prep details the manufacturers warranty that will apply to a correctly prepared shingle and shake job.
Thanks!!
How to prep varies drastically based on the current condition of the wood, if it has been coated before, what is have been coated with, the age of the wood, etc. There is not one way to prep every scenario. Because of this, we have an entire help website that has numerous articles on how to prep and apply TWP. See this:
https://www.twpstainhelp.com/
I just replaced the wood on my saltwater dock float and walkway with .60 treated pine. Can i use twp on my dock if so which product would you recommend and
can i put it on now or should i wait for the wood to dry as it just came in from the lumber company that treats the wood?
You cannot stain new wood right away with TWP. See this for tips: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/
Once weathered and prepped, you can use it.
I am working on a decretive upside down onion shape covered in cedar shakes on the top of an old Victorian. I am hoping to use the 200 on them and have it last. Any thoughts? I believe I spoke with someone a month or so ago and they recommended to thin the first coat and then finish with a second coat. Can I use multiple coats as long as I watch for build up? Thank you.
The 200 Series is the correct product. You do not thin it though. Apply as is. You can apply two coats as long as the wood can fully absorb the two coats. Typically one is all you need.
Is 200 series the only option available for Canada? Looking to stain an old pressure treated wood deck.
Also, is 200 series really 1-coat application?
Only the TWP 200 is allowed in Canada. Just one coat is needed.
I understand that TWP 200 takes 48-96 hours to dry completely. How soon is it safe to 1) walk on the deck for people, and 2) let the cat out to the deck?
This will vary based on the weather, wood, and UV exposure. Could be 3-7 days to fully cure.
I’m sorry for being persistent but I’d like to understand what would happen if I let a cat out on a not-completely-cured deck? Will it get sick? Will it leave paw prints?
If it is not fully cured and the cat gets the stain on his/her paws, it could get sick if it licks it. It is an oil-based stain so best to make sure it is fully cured first. Should not leave paw prints.
How long does it take for delivery? Zip 03837
2-3 business days.
Can I use the 200 series over area previously stained with 100 series (3 years old) ? and what type of prep would you recommend? Thank you
Prep with this and you will be okay: https://www.twpstain.com/gemini-s-restore-a-deck-cleaner-and-brightener-kit
Hi, I have three questions. 1) How much does it cost to ship TWP 200 series to Kingston Ontario Canada? 2) How long does the shipping take? I expect I’ll need approximately 6 gallons but will measure to confirm. 3) I’m thinking of the slate gray but it appears to completely cover the wood grain. Does it do that or can you still see the wood grain as you can with the other stain colours?
Thanks
Clarence
