VOC (Volatile organic compounds) regulations are changing rapidly across the USA and Canada. Not all of the stains that we sell are compliant for all areas. As it stands 16 US states and Canada have adopted the more stringent 250 regulation:
TWP 100 Series and TWP Semi-Solid Pro-Series is not VOC Compliant for Canada and these USA states and cannot be shipped or used there: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont*, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Northern VA, Pennsylvania, Parts of Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, all of Canada.
TWP 1500 Series is compliant for all 50 States but cannot be shipped or used in Canada.
TWP 200 Series is compliant for all 50 States and Canada.
*Although Vermont is a member of the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC), they have yet to enact those VOC regulations. Vermont currently observes VOC regulations established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

VOCs, you are not allowed to use the 100 Series or Semi-solid colors in NJ. No disadvantage with the 1500 Series. It works and lasts the same as the 100 Series.

I would like to only stain the outdoor stair treads to match the front door. How would I attain a consistent stain for six treads where the top two are cedar and the bottom four stairs care made of yellow pint
Cedar and pine wood cannot stain the exact same color when using a semi-transparent stain. The wood itself will highlight differently based on the wood type.
is the semi transparent cape cod gray product not available in illinois?
Teh 100 Series is not legal for IL. You could use the TWP 200 Series in Slate Gray for IL:
https://www.twpstain.com/wood-and-deck-stains/twp-wood-stains/twp-200-series
Can 100 series be shipped to Michigan now that our laws are changing
Since we are based in MI, we can see the 100 Series until we run out of what we currently have on the ground which was purchased prior to the final implementation date of the VOC change. We expect to run out of inventory bought prior to the changes by June of this year.
Thank you so I own a deck restoration company here and have been using 100 series for years. Is the 1500 similar in longevity and application/appearance/functionality
Lasts the same. The main difference is the colors are slightly richer in the 1500 Series and it takes a little longer to dry.
Do you offer contractor pricing?
Not for shipping.
Can I use the semi-solid stain in Illinois? Below you mention you will be offering a low VOC for some states. We have a 4 year old deck in full sun around a pool and would like to stain it with the best stain possible to last. Below are pictures. We will power wash and clean before applying any stain. I assume we will need two coats?
No, the Semi-solid is not allowed in IL. That may change later in the year but currently, it is not.

Getting ready to clean/brighten and then semi-transparent stain a PTP deck that was installed just over a year ago. Can’t decide if we should use oil or water based? It gets some direct sun but is under a tree, will get dirty, and we live in a place with hot, humid summers and mild, some snow winters. Any suggestions? Also,l concerned about ease of application, we are not professionals but want it to look nice.
We only sell oil based. Try the TWP 1500 series.
1-do you recommend 100 pro for red cedar siding?
2- do you ship to New Jersey?
You have to use the 1500 Series for NJ. Yes, we ship there.

I have a new 1 year old cedar picket fence and want to apply a stain to protect it. Which stain would you recommend? I want to bring the cedar color back out, so would a semi-transparent stain work best?
Use the TWP 1500 Series. Any color that you like: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-1500-series
Hi, after reading about the slipperiness of affordable composites, my husband and I decided to go with pressure-treated pine deck for an above-ground pool. The area will also be exposed to full sunlight for most of the day. I’d like to go with a gray color. What is your recommendation, and can the product be applied immediately?
Thanks!

What is the difference between series 1500 and 200?
https://www.twpstain.com/twp-stain-comparison
We want to refinish an OLD gray composite deck. Want to do it in a gray color. We are in OH. Which product should we use in grey. I’m confused.
Sorry but we do not have a product that can be used on composite and that is allowed in Ohio.
I rebuilt a back deck a couple of years ago with pressure treated lumber. The deck gets full sun in the summer – from 9 am till 8 pm, which series should I use? Zip code 35645
Use the TWP semi-solid. It will give the best results when in full sun: https://www.twpstain.com/twp-semi-solid-pro-series
In the summer of 2017 I built a fence. Waited a few weeks and stained it with TWP 100. I re-applied TWP 100 in 2018 and 2020.
This fence gets a lot of UV (SW facing, high altitude). Little precipitation but does get wet from irrigation. I was hoping to go two years before reapplying but the wood does seem to be ‘drying out’ and where irrigation water hits it, it’s getting gray. But it doesn’t peel which is great.
I’m looking to re-apply this spring and am wondering what my best choice is.
Should switch to Semi-Solid? If I do, do I need to strip it first? Can I switch back to TWP 100 or then do I have to strip it? Does the semi-solid start to peel? Should I just stick with TWP 100?
Thanks,
-R
If you switch to semi-solid then yes, strip and brighten for prep. Same if you switch back to the 100 Series. The semi-solids do not peel. You will have better UV protection from fading with the semi-solids. Can you adjust your sprinklers to not hit the fence? That would help.
Can the 1500 series stain be made in a weathered gray?
The 1500 Series is not made in a gray color and cannot be.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle area, and have three connecting cedar decks that we stain with Super Deck red cedar transparent oil stain. We have used that product on the decks for 20 years. We usually stain horizontal surfaces every two years and the railings every 4. Apparently Duck Back, the makers of Super Deck is no longer making an oil based product, so we are looking for something similar without having to remove the old stain. It would be very difficult, with railings all around and large surfaces. Do I understand that your 1500 product is oil based, and can it be used over the existing oil stain? We will be lightly pressure washing the decks and scrubbing the horizontal surfaces, as we usually do, before applying the stain.
When switching brands of stain you have no choice but to remove the current coating. You cannot apply the TWP over your old coating. You can strip it with this kit: https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit-detail
We have a marine plywood clad garage that originally was finished with Sikkens Cetol (clear) but exposure and poor initial application has resulted in pretty faded/worn/ugly cladding. The marine ply now has a rough surface but cannot be sanded since there won’t be any thing left if we do! Can we use the 100 series in a color over the old Cetol surface? What prep would be needed? We are in Seattle area. Thanks!
No, you would have the remove the Sikkens. Use the RAD Stripper Kit: https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit-detail
With both additives: https://www.twpstain.com/wood-stain-strippers/rad-stripper-additives
I live in Western NY where the wind literally scrapes the snow across our wood deck and removes the semi-transparent stain I’ve been using – thus requiring an annual re-application. The previous semi-transparent stain was Olympic Maximum. Which cleaning kit would be recommended before applying the recommended TWP series? Would I be better off with the 1500 series or the Pro? And do they both destroy mildew? Thanks.
You need the 1500 Sereis for NY. As for prep, we would need to see some pics posted here for help.
Thank you – I have also posted a picture, please let me know if more needed. Thanks!
